The birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930 was an important historical turning point of the Vietnamese revolution. The past 90 years have proven that the correct leadership of the Party is the leading factor determining all victories of our country's revolution.

On the path of development of the Vietnamese revolution, the Party has constantly overcome all difficulties and challenges; made decisions of turning point significance, in line with reality, meeting historical requirements. The Party led the entire people to fight for power, fight for national liberation and unification, carry out the socialist revolution throughout the country, and successfully carry out the cause of national renewal.

- Leading the August Revolution of 1945 to success and protecting the young people's democratic government

At the age of 15, with 5,000 party members, within just 15 days at the end of August 1945, the Party led the entire nation to make the great August Revolution of 1945, overthrowing French colonialism, Japanese fascism and feudal domination, establishing the first people's democratic state in Southeast Asia.

On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the provisional government, solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, declaring to the nation and the world : The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam). From here, Vietnam entered a new era: the era of independence, freedom and socialism. This is one of the greatest events in the Vietnamese revolutionary career.

President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: “Not only can the working class and the Vietnamese people be proud, but the working class and oppressed peoples elsewhere can also be proud that: This is the first time in the revolutionary history of colonial peoples that a Party only 15 years old has successfully led the revolution and taken power nationwide.” (1)

And in a precarious situation with the mounting difficulties of a young government, the Party and President Ho Chi Minh firmly steered the country, seizing the opportunity to maintain peace, recuperate the people, and prepare forces for a long and arduous fight.

- Led two long-term resistance wars to great victories

During the nine-year long resistance war against the French colonialists, the Party and President Ho Chi Minh led the entire people and army from one victory to another.

In particular, the Dien Bien Phu Victory, "famous in five continents and shaking the world", is the most convincing proof of the wise leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho, of the invincible strength of the people, of the great national unity aroused and organized by the Party. The Dien Bien Phu Victory is also the final decisive blow, ending the fate of old colonialism, a breakthrough that opens up opportunities and encourages oppressed peoples around the world to rise up and fight for liberation and self-salvation.

But it seems that the history of humanity in the second half of the 20th century has chosen the Vietnamese people as the fulcrum to test human conscience, to be the pioneers in the fight against evil and imperialism. The sacrifices and hardships of nine years of protracted resistance have only brought peace to half of the country, the half of the South that is still under the domination of American imperialism.

Under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, our people entered a new period, simultaneously carrying out two strategic tasks: Building socialism in the North and fighting to liberate the South.

Implementing the strategic guidance of the Politburo: "Speed, boldness, surprise, sure victory", our five powerful main forces launched a general offensive on Saigon with the coordination of local armed forces and the strong uprising movement of the masses. We crushed the enemy's resistance, forcing the Saigon government cabinet to declare unconditional surrender. At exactly 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 1975, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam flew on the roof of the Independence Palace, the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign ended in victory. The advice of our beloved Uncle Ho before he passed away "We must be determined to fight the American invaders until complete victory" was fully implemented by our army and people.

The historic victory of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in the spring of 1975 wrote one of the most glorious pages of the nation's history, driving all invaders out of the country. This was a victory of the courage, sacrifice, intelligence, patriotism, and solidarity of the nation, aroused, organized, and trained by the Party and Uncle Ho into an invincible force. This was also a victory of the trend of the times, of the solidarity and assistance of fraternal countries, and of peace-loving forces around the world.

It can be affirmed that “in the long march to gain independence and freedom for the nation, the Party is always present everywhere and at all times. The Party takes the lead in fighting. The Party rushes into difficult places. The Party is closely attached to the People through what the Party has done for the cause of national liberation”. (2)

- Extremely great achievements in building and defending the Fatherland, building a socialist rule of law state

After the country was unified, amid countless difficulties, the Party led the people to both restore the economy and conduct two wars against invaders at both ends of the border, protecting the country's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Under the leadership of the Party, the people of the whole country have both promoted the construction of infrastructure and explored and resolved difficulties, overcome economic and social stagnation and crisis, and gradually outlined a path of innovation. In 1986, the Party proposed a path of innovation, opening an important turning point in the cause of building socialism in Vietnam.

After nearly 40 years of implementing the Party's renovation policy, our country has achieved great and historic achievements in all areas of life. Our country has escaped underdevelopment and become a middle-income developing country. Per capita income reached over 4,000 USD in 2022. In particular, in 2022, the national GDP growth reached 8.02%, the highest in the period 2011-2022. In 2023, Vietnam continued to be a bright spot in the global economy, basically achieving the general goals set out in all areas; recognized by many prestigious international organizations. The growth of gross domestic product (GDP) for the whole year reached 5.05%. Vietnam is currently one of the world's leading rice exporters. The value of Vietnam's national brand reached 431 billion USD, up 1 place to 32nd out of 100 strong national brands in the world. Vietnam's economy is strongly integrated with the region and the world.

To date, Vietnam has established official diplomatic relations with all 35 countries in the Americas and 193 countries and territories, including 6 comprehensive strategic partners, 12 strategic partners and 12 comprehensive partners. The National Assembly has relations with the national assemblies and parliaments of more than 140 countries. The Vietnam Fatherland Front, unions and people's organizations have also carried out practical foreign relations with 1,200 people's organizations and foreign partners. Currently, Vietnam has trade relations with more than 200 countries and territories, signed bilateral trade agreements with more than 100 countries, including many new generation agreements. Foreign relations are increasingly expanding and deepening; Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena are enhanced.

On the multilateral level, with its new position and strength, Vietnam is an active and responsible member of more than 70 important international organizations and forums such as the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, WTO... Vietnam has also successfully organized many major international conferences and fulfilled many important international responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, rotating ASEAN Chair, host of the ASEM Summit, APEC Summit, World Economic Forum on ASEAN... Vietnam has sent hundreds of officers and soldiers to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping mission, demonstrating the image of a friendly, peace-loving, humane Vietnam, ready to join hands to solve the problems facing the international community.

In recent years, the Party has continued to innovate and renew itself to better fulfill the requirements and tasks in the new revolutionary period. The Party has focused on Party building, considering Party building a key task. Since then, the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party organization have been gradually improved. The spirit of self-criticism and criticism of cadres and Party members has improved; the prevention and fight against corruption and negativity have been carried out resolutely, continuously, without rest, without forbidden areas, without exceptions; the fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints, handling of negativity and violations, practicing thrift, and the fight against "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party have clearly changed.

It can be affirmed that the victory of the "Doi Moi" process once again demonstrates the latent cultural strength of the nation, the talent and intelligence of the Vietnamese people. Moreover, it is a strong testament to the correctness of the socialist revolutionary path that the Party and Uncle Ho have chosen, and to the role and wise leadership capacity of the Communist Party of Vietnam in building the country, defending the Fatherland and developing the economy.
