On the afternoon of June 2, Nghe An General Hospital sent a report to Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and Nghe An Provincial Police about the case of a female medical worker being assaulted at the hospital.

According to the report, at about 11:52 p.m. on May 31, the hospital's emergency department received patient Tran Van L. - 53 years old, residing in Nghi Kim commune, Vinh city.

Patients entering the department are examined by a doctor, who explains the patient's condition, prescribes medication and performs paraclinical tests, and at the same time guides family members at the counter to complete procedures for the patient.

At the check-in counter, nurse Nguyen Thi An received the documents and then guided the family to the waiting area outside, to wait according to hospital regulations, but the family did not comply, showed an uncooperative attitude and used insulting, abusive, and threatening words towards the medical staff.

Nurse An continued to explain and asked the family to wait outside for the medical staff to perform their duties. When assistance is needed, the medical staff will notify them.

However, the family did not comply, continued to curse, insult, threaten and reached over the counter to slap nurse An in the face while she was performing her duties.

Nurse An's glasses flew off, her left cheek was swollen, painful, dizzy, nauseous and had a panic attack and had to be hospitalized for treatment.

"The incident has affected the health and psychology of medical staff on emergency duty as well as the medical examination and treatment environment at the hospital," the report stated.

Currently, Nghi Phu Ward Police are working with relevant parties to prepare a case file to handle the case.

The person who beat nurse An was identified as TTA - 32 years old, son of Mr. L.

Regarding patient L.'s condition, the hospital's on-duty team examined him, gave him the appropriate prescriptions, and treated him according to the prescribed regimen. By 2:00 a.m. on June 1, the patient's abdominal pain had subsided, his vital signs were within normal limits, and his family requested to complete the procedures for Mr. L. to be discharged from the hospital.

Mr. Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee - also sent a document to the Provincial Police and relevant departments to verify and clarify the case of a nursing staff at the hospital being assaulted by a patient's family member.

According to the document of the Provincial People's Committee, this is a violation of the law that needs to be condemned by society and strictly handled by law.

The above incident disrupted order and safety in the hospital, affected emergency care, medical examination and treatment, affected the spirit and health, and threatened the lives and motivation of doctors and medical staff.

To strengthen the work of ensuring security and safety for medical examination and treatment facilities, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Police to direct professional units to promptly investigate, resolve and strictly handle the above case in accordance with the provisions of law.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Health to promptly care for and encourage the health and spirit of medical staff and patients affected by the above incident.

Direct medical examination and treatment facilities to comprehensively review medical examination and treatment procedures and security and order assurance work at the units.
