Immediately after arriving at Noi Bai Airport ( Hanoi ), U23 Yemen was arranged to be taken to Saigon - Phu Tho Hotel (Viet Tri) to settle in. Despite having gone through a 7-hour flight from their home country, the Yemeni players even went to the field for a light practice at 7:00 p.m. the same day, to quickly get used to the climate before the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers.
In the list of players registered for the qualifying round, U23 Yemen only has one player playing abroad, goalkeeper Muhammad Ramadan Shuey Jumaan (Saudi Arabia). The remaining 22 players are all playing for domestic clubs.
Three notable faces in the attack of U23 Yemen are Abdulaziz Masnoum, Qassem Al-Sharafi and Hamza Mahrous - players who were recently in the Yemen national team squad that played against Bhutan and Lebanon in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in June.
In particular, 19-year-old striker Hamza Mahrous has impressed as he has become the third choice in attack for the national team.
U23 Yemen is led by coach Amin Al Suneini. Before coming to Vietnam, they had a thorough training session in the country and UAE, and had friendly matches with some clubs here.
In Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 qualifiers, U23 Yemen is considered the toughest opponent of U23 Vietnam, with the ability to compete for a ticket to the final round next year.
U23 Vietnam will play U23 Bangladesh, U23 Singapore and then meet U23 Yemen in the final round, on September 3, September 6 and September 9 at Viet Tri Stadium.
