At the 2020-2025 Advanced Model Conference of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the reigning SEA Games champion in Athletics Nguyen Thi Oanh gave an emotional speech, recounting her journey to pursue a career in athletics. She said that when she had kidney disease, she was very disappointed but did not give up or give up.
She said her most difficult time was at the end of 2014 and all of 2015 when she discovered she had glomerulonephritis, could not continue training and competing, and missed the 28th SEA Games in Singapore.
Talking about this difficult time, Oanh said: "I was lucky and happy to always have the care and encouragement of my family, teachers and friends; besides that, there was the care of the National Sports Training Center, the enthusiastic care and treatment from the Post Office Hospital... the feelings that all the people who loved me helped me overcome that time of crisis and return to my passion."
In 2016, Oanh returned to the national team. At the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia, Oanh won 02 gold medals; this achievement not only helped her complete her mission but also motivated Oanh to win excellent medals.

Nguyen Thi Oanh shared that she started running when she was still in school and liked running since the summer of grade 4, but it was not until grade 8 that she started training and competing in school and district level athletics competitions. The Bac Giang Newspaper Competition - an annual running competition of Bac Giang province - was the tournament that brought her to high-performance sports.
"In August 2010, I was selected and recruited to the Bac Giang Sports Talent School (now the Bac Giang Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center). At first, it was probably the joy and love of training with my peers; then gradually it became passion, love and desire to train and compete. Perhaps that is also one of the motivations that has helped me stick with and accompany the sport of Athletics until now.
In 2012, I was called up to the Youth Athletics Team at the Hanoi National Sports Training Center. In the youth age group, I was honored to win a gold medal at the Asian Youth Championship, a silver medal at the 27th SEA Games and several other achievements. With these achievements and efforts in training, in 2014 I was called up to the National Team, trained and competed with experienced and accomplished seniors, helping me learn a lot of things," said Nguyen Thi Oanh.
