The Vietnamese athletics team has concluded two days of competition at the 2025 Hong Kong Open Athletics Championships, which took place on May 10-11 at Wan Chai Stadium.
In this tournament, the team is led by coaches Vu Thi My Hanh and Ho Thi Tu Tam, with 5 athletes, including: Le Tien Long (competition events: 3,000m hurdles, 5,000m), Bui Thi Ngan (800m, 1,500m), Hoang Thanh Giang (800m, javelin), Duong Thi Thao (high jump), and Bui Thi Nguyen (100m hurdles).
Among the above athletes, it is noteworthy that Le Tien Long, who won the gold medal at the 31st SEA Games, has just returned to the team after a long absence.
Besides, two young athletes Bui Thi Ngan (born in 2001) and Duong Thi Thao (born in 2006) are in the plan to rejuvenate Vietnam's athletics force, aiming for the 33rd SEA Games.
After two days of competition, all Vietnamese athletes who participated in the competition won gold medals. Except for Hoang Thanh Giang, who was not in 100% physical condition and did not compete at the last minute.
Specifically, Le Tien Long won the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes 10.51 seconds, and the gold medal in the 5,000m with a time of 14 minutes 49.08 seconds.

In the 100m hurdles event, veteran athlete Bui Thi Nguyen easily won the gold medal with a time of 13.43 seconds. This is a parameter that the coaching staff assessed as Nguyen maintaining a stable performance, and can hope for an explosion in the following competitions.

In the last two SEA Games, the bar height to win a gold medal in the high jump was 1.78m and 1.79m.
Duong Thi Thao, born in 2006, won the silver medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian U18 Championship, the gold medal at the 2024 Southeast Asian School Games and the bronze medal at the 2024 National Championship. Thao's achievements have gradually increased from 1.74m to 1.77m and currently reach 1.81m.
