Previously, on June 25, NMC (born in 2005, residing in Krongpa district, Gia Lai ) came to the ENT clinic - University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai for a prolonged sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and a feeling of congestion.
According to family members, before that, the child often had sore throat, painful swallowing, throat irritation, fever and snoring.
At the hospital, after examination and endoscopy, the doctor discovered that C had grade IV tonsillitis, with abnormally enlarged tonsils occupying almost the entire throat cavity. Considering this to be a rare case of severe tonsil hypertrophy, the doctor ordered tonsillectomy the following day to avoid dangerous complications for the child.

Large tonsil mass successfully removed. |
After surgery, the tonsil mass removed surprised the entire medical team with its size almost equal to… a chicken egg – much larger than the normal size of tonsils. This is considered one of the rare cases of enlarged tonsils and has been successfully and safely treated at the hospital.
After surgery, the enlarged tonsils were completely removed, and the patient's health improved significantly. The patient was also carefully advised on post-operative care and diet and could return to normal life in the next few weeks.
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the lymphoid tissue located in the pits along the sides of the throat and mouth, usually caused by bacterial or viral infections. If not treated properly, enlarged tonsils can cause symptoms such as persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, bad breath, and even suffocation while sleeping.
In some cases like NMC, large enlarged tonsils can lead to peritonsillar abscesses, infection spreading to the neck, causing inflammation, sepsis, and sleep apnea syndrome - life-threatening complications if not treated promptly.
