Mother Elephant Rock Mountain - surreal beauty in the Central Highlands

From Buon Ma Thuot City, travel along Highway 27 about 35 km towards Lak Lake, visitors will encounter Mother Elephant Rock Mountain on the left side of the road and can visit for free.

Called a mountain, this is actually a monolithic rock, identified as the largest monolithic granite in Vietnam. Mother Elephant Rock is the size of a mountain, about 200 m long, about 500 m in circumference at the foot of the mountain and more than 30 m high. The mountain has a moderate slope, but visitors must be very careful when moving, especially from top to bottom. It only takes about 20 minutes for visitors to reach the top of the mountain and gaze at the scenery of the mountains and forests below. On the top of the mountain, thousands of years of weathering have created small, clear and cool lakes. Visitors use this water to wash their faces to dispel the sun and wind of the Central Highlands.

From the top of the mountain you can see the surrounding mountains and forests.

Mother Elephant Rock Mountain is located near Yang Reh Lake and at the foot of the majestic Chu Yang Sin Mountain, in Yang Reh Commune (Krong Bong District). About 5 km away is Father Elephant Rock Mountain in Yang Tao Commune (Lak District). Both rocks bear the shape of elephants - considered the mascots of this sacred land.

According to the legend of the people of this region, after many moves, the Father Elephant Rock Mountain has moved closer to the foot of a larger mountain, while the Mother Elephant Rock Mountain was originally located in the north, facing Lak Lake, but after just one night, people saw the Mother Elephant Rock Mountain standing tall on the rice fields in the middle of the valley.

The people of this area consider the two rocky mountains as sacred gods, protecting their peaceful life, so they always respect, preserve and never dare to encroach. Previously, some people intended to exploit the Father Elephant Rock Mountain, but when the iron chisel just touched the rock, people saw a stream of red blood flowing out right at the chisel. Too frightened, these people hurriedly ran away and never dared to return. Since then, people have not seen the Father Elephant Rock Mountain move again. But most of the people here believe that the Father Elephant Rock Mountain and the Mother Elephant Rock Mountain will continue to move until they are close together.
