(NLĐO) - The Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company stated that the wastewater spill into the Cam Le River occurred during rush hour.
On January 9th, the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company provided information regarding the wastewater overflow into the Cam Le River at the discharge points on Thang Long Street, Cam Le District. The company acknowledged that the incident "occasionally occurs due to overload during peak hours."
The point where water overflows into the river is the final pumping station, which transports wastewater to the Hoa Xuan Wastewater Treatment Plant. Although the company has operated all three pumps as designed, wastewater still overflows into the river during peak hours.
The wastewater, covered in white foam and emitting a foul odor, is being discharged into the Cam Le River.
Regarding solutions, Mr. Dang Minh Dung, Deputy Director of Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, said that the company has built temporary sand dams at the discharge points to increase the temporary wastewater storage capacity and limit wastewater overflow. At the same time, during peak hours, the company temporarily shuts down the discharge points and carries out mineralization and odor spraying to minimize foul odors.
Many fish died in the area near the drainage outlet on Thang Long Street.
Mr. Dung stated that the cause of the incident was the frequent rainfall in recent times, which increased the water flow in the drainage system, leading to a decrease in the operating efficiency of the pumping station.
In addition, the pumping station at the incident location has not yet been handed over to the management company, leading to limitations in coordinating wastewater regulation and handling wastewater overflow at the discharge points along Thang Long road.

Mr. Dung said that the company has requested the early handover of the pumping station so that it can be operated in a coordinated manner, definitively resolving the issue of wastewater overflowing into the environment at the discharge points.
Previously, the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported on the situation of black, foul-smelling wastewater being discharged into the Cam Le River at various outlets. This section of the river has a total of 17 outlets, many of which discharge black, foul-smelling wastewater directly into the river.
