In order to build and develop a widespread reading culture within the unit, over the years, the Library of the 5th Naval Region has always proactively innovated the content and form of its activities. It regularly adds new books, organizes many effective models such as "One Good Book Per Week," "Reading Day," "Soldier's Book Shelf," book introductions and exchanges, storytelling competitions based on books, and mobile book promotion to subordinate agencies and units.
In particular, the unit focuses on applying digital transformation in library work to meet the increasingly high demand for information access among young officers and soldiers. A synchronized electronic library management software system has been implemented, linking digital documents, audiobooks, and book introduction videos, creating favorable conditions for soldiers to quickly search for information.
“The Library of the 5th Naval Region organizes weekly book introductions on the Region’s radio system; at the same time, it posts news and articles on the library’s Fanpages and audiobook videos, introducing good books on the library management software, helping officers and soldiers find and read anytime, anywhere on smart devices, enhancing the cultural and spiritual life of the troops,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi Phuong, a professional military officer and librarian in the Political Department of the 5th Naval Region.
Colonel Hoang Quoc Hoan, Deputy Political Commissar of the 5th Naval Region Command, presented books to soldiers at the book exhibition "The Knowledge Toolkit of Soldiers in the Digital Age".
The innovative service methods have made the library more accessible to soldiers, especially young recruits. While many soldiers were previously hesitant to read or had limited access to materials, the reading movement is now gradually becoming a regular practice. Many units maintain reading time in the evenings or on weekends, creating a healthy learning environment within the barracks.
Private Vu Hoang Son, a soldier in Company 1, Battalion 563b, said: “For me, reading plays an important role in my learning and training process. Books not only provide additional knowledge about military and political matters, but also help me improve my awareness, courage, and skills in my work.”
Along with training and combat readiness, the Party Committee and the Command of Naval Region 5 have always paid attention to caring for the cultural and spiritual life of the troops. Activities related to books and reading culture not only improve the level of awareness and build political fortitude for soldiers but also help spread the spirit of lifelong learning throughout the unit.
Through these books, the officers and soldiers gain a deeper understanding of the nation's glorious traditions and the sacrifices of previous generations in the struggle for national liberation and the protection of the country's maritime sovereignty. This fosters faith, pride, and determination to successfully complete all assigned tasks.
Building a reading culture within the unit is crucial in the current context, especially given the increasing diversity of information on the internet. Valuable books will help officers and soldiers improve their thinking abilities, information selection skills, and develop correct perceptions.
In addition to traditional libraries, the 5th Naval Region also focuses on building "Legal Bookcases," "Youth Bookcases," and "Bookcases for Studying and Following the Ideology, Morality, and Style of Ho Chi Minh" at its subordinate agencies and units. These are important resources for studying, researching, political education, and cultural activities for the troops.
The book exhibition and presentation activities at the Naval Region 5 Library have become a highlight in the cultural and spiritual life of the officers and soldiers; fostering a love of books, raising awareness and responsibility, and inspiring a spirit of self-learning in each soldier. Through this, a healthy cultural environment is built, creating motivation for officers and soldiers to work with peace of mind, remain committed to their units, and be ready to accept and successfully complete all assigned tasks.
