Sharing the same "roof" with Mr. Khanh is Mrs. Vo Thi Nam (73 years old). Unlike many cases where people are brought in by relatives, she proactively sought out and chose the Center as her refuge in old age. At that time, Mrs. Nam lived alone and had several underlying health conditions.
Ms. Vo Thi Nam (73 years old) chats with staff at the Provincial Social Work Center.
“Ten years ago, I came to the Center to learn about the living conditions and decided to stay. To this day, I still think it was the right choice. I have many underlying health conditions, and being alone is very dangerous, but here there are always medical staff on duty, so I feel very safe. Here, I feel cared for and no longer feel lonely like before,” Mrs. Nam confided.
She recounted that the Center occasionally organizes trips and tours for everyone to relax and to help members bond. In daily life, if anything wasn't quite right, she would gently offer suggestions, and the staff would always listen and make timely adjustments. It was this thoughtful attention that made her feel secure and comfortable choosing to be associated with this place.
For a time, Mrs. Nam even tutored a young boy at the center, teaching him to read and count. Every day, the two of them would sit together, slowly practicing each stroke of the pen. “The staff, medical personnel, and even the underprivileged children at the center give me the feeling of having grandchildren in my own home. That’s a joy in my old age that I wouldn’t easily have if I were still at home,” Mrs. Nam said emotionally.
Deputy Head of Health Department Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said: “Each person has a different situation, but everyone needs care, to be listened to, and to be loved. Throughout my 13 years working at the Center, I have witnessed many different circumstances and many changes. Every time I see someone recover and improve their health, my colleagues and I are very happy. We always try our best to ensure that everyone here feels the thoughtful and dedicated care.”
In the neat and clean rooms of the Tay Ninh Provincial Social Work Center, the atmosphere is always warm. There, those in special circumstances always receive love and support from people with kind hearts.
