According to data compiled by The Drive, in 2020, this battery replacement was the 428th most common job for a repair shop, but it rose to 170th place in 2022. This could also lead to future shortages of materials, making repairs not only expensive but also lengthy.

According to AAA, the average cost of a car repair is between $500 and $600. Labor costs have been rising over the years, and when that is combined with the fact that repair shops need more advanced technology to work on modern cars, the result is increasingly expensive car repairs.

In the US, the theft of catalytic converters from cars is increasing. This can be explained by the fact that the above-mentioned parts cost up to $2,000 (equivalent to 47 million VND), making them easy prey for thieves.

Hybrid cars have become prime targets for thieves because they have lower emissions than traditional gas-powered cars, so the metals in their converters are in better shape, according to Kelley Blue Book. As the world continues to push electric and hybrid vehicles, this could become a major problem.

Since then, some states have enacted laws requiring the vehicle’s VIN to be labeled directly on the converter, making it harder for thieves to sell these parts. This doesn’t completely solve the problem for older cars, but the idea should make things less of a concern in the future.
