On June 21, the Finnish Parliament announced that it had elected Jussi Halla-aho, former leader of the Finns party, as its Speaker.
According to the press release, with 134 votes in favor in the 200-seat Parliament, Jussi Halla-aho has officially become the new Speaker of the Finnish Parliament.
Traditionally, this position is usually held by a member of parliament from the second-largest party in Congress. Following the April 2nd election, the Finns Party became the second-largest party in Congress with 46 seats.

Jussi Halla-aho was born in 1971. He served as Chairman of the Finns Party from 2017 to 2021. He was a Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2014 and, from July 2019 to the present, was also a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019.
The Finnish Parliament has the power to pass bills based on government proposals, MPs' petitions, or citizen initiatives. On June 21st, under the leadership of Mr. Halla-aho, the Finnish Parliament began debating the Government Programme proposed by the new cabinet on June 16th.
