Dozens of expensive music videos and large-scale albums have been released since the beginning of this year. However, none have achieved a breakthrough to truly shake up the market. Even Hieuthuhai's album " Mắt cửa mắt mở" (Eyes Closed, Eyes Open) only managed to dominate the "trending" charts, instead of generating a significant number of listeners/viewers on digital music platforms, YouTube, and social media.
Recently, the music video "Tuyển bạn gái" by rappers OgeNus and Darangto topped the trending music charts for almost a month. However, the MV only garnered over 4 million views, demonstrating the fierce competition in the otherwise monotonous music scene. It wasn't until Binz released his debut studio album with the hit song "Em" (a collaboration with Soobin) that Vietnamese music truly heated up.
A series of failed music videos
Vietnamese artists have been releasing music in abundance since the beginning of this year, the only issue being the lack of substantial products to become hits. For example, music videos by artists like "Nhả vía" (Kiều Anh), "Hoa hồng ai vun trồng" (Minh Hằng, Tóc Tiên), "Tiếp nhiên liệu" (Ngọc Thanh Tâm), and "Truth Or Date" (Jun Phạm) failed to become hits as expected for various reasons. Recently, Thiều Bảo Trâm's "Thỏ săn mồi" music video garnered very low view counts compared to the usual numbers for the female singer.
From that bleak period, Hieuthuhai easily dominated the music scene with the release of the music video " The Silent One Meets the Talkative One ," followed by his second studio album, "Eyes Closed, Eyes Open ." However, Hieuthuhai's success was only slightly better than his peers. Compared to his debut album, his latest product falls short. And to compare with a hit song that truly took the market by storm like " Even If the World Ends " (Erik) and "Bac Bling" (Hoa Minzy, Tuan Cry, Xuan Hinh) last year, Hieuthuhai has yet to achieve that level of success.

Binz enters the race with Son Tung.
The Vietnamese music market continues to drift along in a monotonous, weary state, waiting for a real "breakthrough" from big names.
GreyD's comeback created a positive effect, but it wasn't explosive. It wasn't until Son Tung announced his return with a project collaborating with international artists that Vietnamese music started to heat up. And right at that moment, Binz also announced his comeback, releasing music at the perfect time to compete with Son Tung.
Binz's album has garnered attention because the rapper collaborated with many popular names in the market, including Obito, Phan Manh Quynh, and Soobin. Among them, the song "Em" by Binz and Soobin surpassed all others, currently reaching 2 million views to lead the "top trending" list.
The sentimental quality of ballad music, its easy-to-listen-to nature, and its ease of being played repeatedly are fundamental conditions that helped "Em" gain widespread popularity.
Following that, the series of controversies surrounding the divorce between Touliver and Toc Tien pushed audience curiosity and discussion to its peak.
Binz is one step ahead of Son Tung in the digital music race. Immediately following him is the MV "Come My Way" by the singer from Thai Binh, a collaboration with the famous Vietnamese-born rapper Tyga, the owner of billion-view hits.
Over the next few weeks, the competition in Vietnamese music will likely be a two-horse race between Binz and Son Tung. It will repeat the scenario that unfolded with the two hits "Run Away Quickly" and "BigCityBoi," leaving viewers wondering if Binz, with the support of Soobin and Phan Manh Quynh, can overshadow Son Tung.

Will Son Tung reach global fame?
Will the Son Tung - Tyga collaboration have a lasting impact?
After two years, Son Tung returns to the Vietnamese music scene with a product featuring a massively invested music video and a collaboration with a rapper with billions of views.
Tyga is a familiar name in the European and American Rap/Hip-hop scene, with both Vietnamese and American heritage.
Sơn Tùng's music videos were already the hottest keywords in Vietnamese music. When Sơn Tùng collaborated with Tyga, the hype doubled or tripled. Now, a large audience is eagerly awaiting the release of " Come My Way" to see if it truly is a "blockbuster" marking a breakthrough in the career of the singer from Thái Bình.
Sơn Tùng will take the top spot in trending music for a few hours; this is a 99% likely scenario. Simply because the collaboration between the owner of the hit song " Hãy trao cho anh " and Tyga has so many explosive elements.
Son Tung will once again dominate the digital music charts, with his song "Come My Way" dominating across multiple DSP platforms. He will also create new trends on social media. This is the basic and minimum success that Son Tung must achieve at this stage.
With Tyga's appearance, audiences will expect even more from "Come My Way ." It's a hit that completely transcends the boundaries of Vietnamese music, reaching new markets. From here, Son Tung's name will rise to a new level. And the mark of Vietnamese artists on the global music scene will spread to international audiences.
Vietnamese people had high expectations for "Hãy trao cho anh" (Give Me Your Love), the hit song by Sơn Tùng in collaboration with Snoop Dogg. Everyone was hoping for a complete Vietnamese song that could compete fairly on a chart or at least in a reputable playlist on digital music platforms.
However, seven years ago, Snoop Dogg's presence was simply a one-time appearance. Snoop Dogg didn't help Son Tung in any way to promote the music video to an international audience.
In 2019, Son Tung also lacked clear preparation to capitalize on Snoop Dogg's appeal and develop a plan for international promotion. Let's wait and see if, after the disappointment with " Hãy trao cho anh" (Give Me Your Love), Son Tung's team learns a lesson and makes this collaboration with Tyga a truly meaningful partnership – a cross-border collaboration to lay the first bricks in elevating the Vietnamese artist's image.
