Not reaching the required score, can I still study?
Parents also wonder whether the survey results will influence their choice of subject.
According to parents of 10th grade students at Le Quy Don High School, after registering for a combination of 4 elective subjects including fine arts for their children who had just been admitted to 10th grade, on July 23 they received a notice that the students had to participate in the entrance assessment of this subject on July 31.
Accordingly, the assessment content includes: Answering questions assessing the ability and passion, career orientation from the admissions board on Google form and presenting a drawing of a plaster object on A3 drawing paper (horizontal grain Canson paper) using pencil. The assessment aims to classify students according to career orientation and assess the candidate's aesthetic aptitude, spatial perception and compositional ability on two-dimensional space (paper surface) to create a reasonable layout and precise structure of the object. At the same time, the notice sent to parents includes content about the scores for each assessment criterion.
Therefore, parents of 10th graders expressed concern that if students do not achieve the required score, will they not be able to study the art subject they have chosen?

The assessment is not an entrance exam and does not disqualify students.
Regarding the above questions, answering Thanh Nien reporter, Ms. Bui Minh Tam, Principal of Le Quy Don High School, said that the school also received information about parents' concerns and at the same time gave feedback and clarified the information.
Ms. Bui Minh Tam affirmed that the assessment is not an entrance exam and does not disqualify students. All 66 students who registered to study fine arts in the elective group were accepted.
According to Ms. Bui Minh Tam, the assessment is not intended to select or exclude but to help students understand their career orientation and personal interests. The survey of aesthetic ability and visual perception is a basis for differentiating learning content and developing appropriate methods for each group of students.
The assessment is gentle and encourages experience. Students do not need to practice under pressure or worry about the results. The content includes 3 parts: Answering the survey on Google Form (multiple choice) to learn about career orientation and artistic interests. Drawing a simple still life with a pencil (basic blocks such as balls - cubes...) on A3 paper to survey the way of observing and feeling shapes, does not require high techniques. In addition, there are also exchange activities with students in the school's art club.
The principal of Le Quy Don High School continued to explain that the entrance assessment for fine arts aims to guide students to recognize their strengths and interests in the field of fine arts. Create a foundation to help them have a suitable career orientation in the future (design, architecture, applied arts...). Organize flexible classes according to ability groups and in-depth orientation if needed.
Ms. Tam emphasized: "Fine art is a special art subject, so the school organizes this elective subject survey activity for 10th grade students from 2023. The school encourages students to participate with a happy, confident spirit, without pressure about the results. All survey information is used only for teaching and career counseling purposes, not for publicity or comparison between students."
