| Every year, the Department of Livestock, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries of Thai Nguyen province organizes fish release programs into rivers and large reservoirs in the area to create aquatic resources. |
According to assessments by the Department of Agriculture and Environment, aquaculture in the province has undergone a transformation, with many areas being converted to intensive and semi-intensive farming of high -economic- value species.
By the end of 2025, the total area of intensive and semi-intensive farming using high-yield, high-quality, and economically valuable fish varieties in Thai Nguyen will reach 2,100 hectares; cage fish farming on reservoirs will reach 23,472 m³ .
In addition, aquaculture breeding activities have also received attention and investment. By 2025, breeding facilities in the province were expected to produce 600 million fish fry; and raise and sell 60 million fingerlings of various types.
However, in 2025, the province had 7,467 hectares of water surface for aquaculture, with a harvest output of over 21.8 thousand tons (aquaculture production reached over 21.3 thousand tons, and fishing production reached over 500 tons), only achieving 95% of the plan.
Therefore, with this year's objectives in mind, Thai Nguyen needs to continue promoting the application of science and technology in aquaculture, expanding intensive farming, and improving aquatic product productivity.
