The goal is to open the Lai Xuan bridge to traffic in May 2025.

To realize the goals of the cooperation program between Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, with the spirit of unity, accelerating development, and completing a synchronous, modern, interconnected, and comprehensive transportation infrastructure system, promoting regional and intra-regional linkages… in 2023, the two localities jointly decided to invest in the Lai Xuan bridge connecting Dong Trieu City (Quang Ninh) with Thuy Nguyen City (Hai Phong City) across the Da Bach River. To date, the project is basically completed, striving to open to traffic by the end of May 2025.

The project includes the Lai Xuan bridge, 840m long and 12m wide, constructed of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, with a total investment of 544 billion VND; and the renovation and expansion of the road connecting the two ends of the bridge, over 14km long, with a roadbed width of 12m, starting at the intersection with National Highway 10 in Thien Huong commune (Thuy Nguyen City), and ending at the connection with Provincial Road 333 in Dong Trieu City, with a total investment of 791 billion VND.

By the end of 2024, the main bridge section, measuring 840m in length and 12m in width, was essentially completed.

According to the project's consulting and supervision representatives, from the very beginning of construction, the investor and contractors set a goal of shortening the timeline and completing the project for commissioning by the end of 2024. This is of great significance in promoting inter-regional and intra-regional economic development, adding a new road corridor connecting Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, and gradually completing a synchronized and modern transportation network for the key economic region of Northern Vietnam. However, while the main section and access roads on the Quang Ninh side have been completed on schedule, the Hai Phong side is still facing difficulties in land clearance, particularly due to the unremoved oil pipeline of the K131 Oil and Gas Enterprise.

On the Hai Phong side, difficulties in land clearance are still being encountered, due to the unremoved oil pipeline of the K131 Oil and Gas Enterprise.

It is understood that Hai Phong City has issued a directive to Thuy Nguyen City to relocate and return the oil pipeline from K130 depot to K131 depot to facilitate land clearance for the project and the opening of Lai Xuan Bridge in May 2025, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hai Phong on May 13th (1955-2025). However, the plan to relocate the oil pipeline requires adherence to procedures and consultation with several relevant ministries, agencies, and the Vietnam National Petroleum Group… therefore, land clearance work is still being prioritized.

To ensure seamless connectivity with the Lai Xuan Bridge, in July 2024, Quang Ninh decided to invest in upgrading Provincial Road 333, connecting National Highway 18 with the Lai Xuan Bridge access road. The project spans 1.4km, with a width of 12-20m depending on the section, and includes 4 lanes (2 for motorized vehicles and 2 for non-motorized vehicles), along with a system of drainage ditches, sidewalks, and street lighting. To date, the roadbed widening and drainage ditch construction have been completed. Currently, the investor is directing contractors to focus on and accelerate the final asphalt paving layers, aiming for completion by April 2025 to connect with the Lai Xuan Bridge access road.

Quang Ninh is striving to complete the renovation of Provincial Road 333, connecting National Highway 18 with the access road to Lai Xuan Bridge, by April 2025.

According to the revised plan, the Lai Xuan Bridge will be completed and opened to traffic on the occasion of the anniversary of the Liberation of Hai Phong. This will be the fourth road transport corridor connecting Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, after the National Highway 10, Bach Dang Bridge, and Ben Rung Bridge, becoming an important driving force connecting almost all adjacent areas of the two localities. It will contribute to improving transport service capacity, meeting the transportation needs between industrial parks, clusters, and the developing urban chain; maximizing land use, expanding new development spaces, and creating momentum for symbiotic development in trade and human resource supply in the region. In particular, it will significantly contribute to promoting solidarity and close ties between the people of the two localities, gradually completing the transport network of Hai Phong City, Quang Ninh Province, and the Northern Key Economic Region.
