This move marks Finland's official becoming the 31st member of NATO.
On April 3, answering a press conference before the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, Secretary General of this military alliance Jens Stoltenberg declared: "We will welcome Finland."
According to Mr. Stoltenberg, Türkiye - the last country to ratify Finland's NATO membership - will hand over the official documents to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on April 4. At that time, the process of Finland's admission to NATO will be officially completed.
The office of Finnish President Sauli Niinisto confirmed the information, saying that the leader will travel to Brussels to attend the official ceremony bringing his country into NATO.
Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen will also attend the ceremony.
In response to the above information, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko declared : "Moscow will strengthen its military potential in the West and Northwest."
The diplomat warned that if NATO forces and resources are deployed in Finland, “we will take additional steps to reliably ensure Russia's military security.”
Regarding this issue, on the same day, responding to AFP news agency, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Rob Bauer said that Finland currently does not require NATO members to be stationed on its territory.
According to Admiral Rob Bauer, whether NATO will station troops on Finnish territory or not will depend on Helsinki, but at the moment, the Nordic country has not made any such request.
However, this is entirely possible in the future and NATO will have to consider carefully if it decides to deploy troops in Finland.
