According to RT on July 22 , US President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of committing "treason", declaring that he would prosecute him and senior intelligence officials under Obama for conspiring to sabotage the 2016 presidential election as well as fabricating intelligence information to accuse Trump of colluding with Russia.
"It was treason. Obama was the leader. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, former FBI Director James Comey, former DNI Director James Clapper were on his team. They tried to cheat and they got caught. They cheated in the 2020 election," President Trump said.
A report by Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, which includes more than 100 declassified documents, released last week claims that Obama's intelligence chiefs discarded every intelligence assessment that found no Russian involvement (in the 2016 election) and replaced them with fabricated claims, paving the way for the Russiagate investigation.
However, former President Obama strongly denied the above allegations, reaffirming his stance after Mr. Trump's latest statements in the Oval Office.
Mr Obama's office said that DNI Gabbard's report contained nothing that undermined the widely accepted conclusion that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 US presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.
"Out of respect for the presidency, our office does not typically respond to the constant nonsense and misinformation coming out of the White House. However, these claims are so outrageous that they deserve condemnation. These outlandish allegations are ridiculous and a feeble attempt to distract the public," Obama's office said in a statement.
