Salah defends Trent Alexander-Arnold against negative reactions from Liverpool fans. |
Salah stressed that Alexander-Arnold did not deserve the negative reactions from the Anfield stands: “I think the fans were a bit harsh on Trent. He deserves to be treated as well as possible for what he has given to the fans.”
The Egyptian striker also expressed his surprise and disappointment at the behaviour of some fans, stressing that this is not typical behaviour of Liverpool fans. “I was really surprised because we, true Liverpool fans, do not act like that,” he said.
The Premier League match against Arsenal in Round 36 was supposed to be Trent Alexander-Arnold's emotional farewell to Anfield, but the defender was whistled and booed from the start. Salah insisted that no player, even one who had only been with the club for six months, should be treated like that, let alone one who had given his all for 20 years.
The Egyptian striker hopes the fans will change their approach in the upcoming match against Brighton or in the final game of the season, so that Alexander-Arnold can have a proper farewell. “I hope it will be different, because he deserves it,” Salah said.
“I told him yesterday, ‘Don’t look me in the eye when you say goodbye’. I really like Trent. I think he deserves a great farewell when he leaves the club,” Salah said.
