Nuno Santo is in conflict with the owners. |
According to The Athletic , the relationship between Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis has seriously broken down, mainly due to the transfer business. Sources confirm that Nuno also has a serious conflict with new sporting director Edu Gaspar - who just left Arsenal to work for Marinakis.
The relationship has been described as “untenable” and the two sides are barely on speaking terms. Tensions were further heightened after Edu blocked the transfer of Adama Traore from Fulham to the City Ground, leaving Nuno extremely frustrated.
Notably, the Portuguese coach publicly admitted in a press conference before the match against Palace on August 24 that: "The relationship between me and the owner is not as good as before. No, it is not good at the moment. I think everyone in the club needs to be united, but in reality it is not like that."
The frank statement surprised Forest's leadership. Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett said the club had no intention of sacking Nuno, but his words made many people question his commitment to the team, even suggesting that the coach was deliberately creating a way out.
Forest started the season with a 3-1 win over Brentford, which secured a place in the Europa League. The club also spent around £85 million on four new signings: Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz. However, internal conflicts soon overshadowed this optimistic atmosphere.
