The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) are increasing pressure in the area south of the city of Kostiantynivka, in the west of Donetsk Oblast. Yesterday, the RFAF continued to gain control of another village on the left side of the H20 highway, the village of Staraya Nikolaevka. On May 28, this information was officially confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense . The Russian Ministry of Defense showed footage of two Russian soldiers raising the Russian tricolor and what appeared to be the unit's flag at one of the village's buildings. According to unconfirmed information, after Staraya Nikolaevka was overrun by Russian troops, battles for the village of Gnativka, north of Staraya Nikolaevka, began.
Deputy commander of the motorized infantry battalion of the 10th Tank Regiment of the RFAF Southern Group, codenamed "Nut", recounted the course of the battle to capture the village of Staraya Nikolaevka. According to "Nut", it was very difficult for them to attack the village, because the terrain in the approach was very open. “The area is difficult to reach because it is all open fields and the AFU FPV UAVs are fiercely blocking the attacking groups. However, we are supported by tank detachments, which provide direct fire support from fortifications with anti-UAV nets,” Nut added. After overrunning the village of Staraya Nikolaevka, the fighting is now shifting to the small village of Gnativka in the north. It is important to note that the village of Staraya Nikolaevka is only three kilometers from the H20 highway to the city of Konstantinovka, a large fortified area and the AFU logistics center in Donbass, and 17 kilometers from the city. At the same time, it puts pressure on the southern stronghold of Zorya, about 4 kilometers to the north. The control of Staraya Nikolaevka allowed the Russians to expand their occupation of the village of Romanivka, which they had previously occupied. From here, it also allowed the RFAF to attack the Ukrainian forces in Konstantinovka and its vicinity, not only with artillery but also with FPV UAVs, including fiber-optic UAVs, which have an operating range exceeding 20 km. According to the Military Summary channel, on the Konstantinovka front, the Ukrainian army (AFU) has shown signs of disintegration, their defense line is showing signs of complete collapse. The fighting is rapidly approaching the city. The RFAF has achieved a breakthrough between Konstantinovka and Pokrovsk - Myrnohrad. Geolocation images show that Russian troops are already at Gnativka.
Readovka channel confirmed that AFU units south of Konstantinovka were surrounded, as the RFAF Southern Group continued its breakthrough, capturing the villages of Staraya Nikolaevka and Gnativka. Their assault units broke into Nova Poltavka and Zorya, in addition, the reconnaissance attack on Yablunivka continued. Currently, the Ukrainian troops in the village of Zorya are in danger of being surrounded; after the Russian troops take control of the villages of Staraya Nikolaevka and Gnativka, they will form a three-sided encirclement of the Ukrainian troops in Zorya; east from Romanivka, west from the direction of Oleksandropil, south from Staraya Nikolaevka and Gnativka. It is important to note that tactically, the Ukrainian forces in Zorya still had an escape corridor through the fields between the villages of Zorya and Romanivka. However, this corridor was only 2km wide, effectively a “death door”, meaning that any Ukrainian soldiers who fled north would be destroyed. It is also impossible to predict how many Ukrainian soldiers are trapped in the encirclement. After all, even before the assault on the Zorya settlement began, Ukrainian troops began to abandon their positions, retreating to Oleksandro-Kalynove, part of the city's southern defense line of the Kleban-Bykske Reservoir.
Although the AFU had built defensive positions along both sides of the H20 highway in the city of Kostiantynivka; according to preliminary estimates, there could be up to 2 AFU companies in an area of 10 square kilometers. However, these units could not participate in stopping the Russian troops approaching Kostiantynivka, because they did not dare to organize a mobile defense, but “held the ground”, waiting for the Russian troops to attack. According to ZOV Military channel, the RFAF Southern Group is fighting to create a siege that separates Konstantinovka, Pokrovsk and Toretsk; the battlefield pattern has been clearly formed by the Russian penetration into the middle of the three cities and is threatening both supply routes of the city of Konstantinovka. Currently, the AFU General Staff is trying to stop the Russian advance, which is approaching south of Konstantinovka, by sending reinforcements to this direction. According to the Russian TV channel Divgen, the AFU has transferred the 44th Motorized Rifle Brigade, from the Kupyansk front, the 91st Anti-Tank Battalion of the AFU General Staff, from the Pokrovsk defense line, and the 36th Marine Brigade, from Kherson, to the Konstantinovsk direction. In addition, the 36th Brigade of the National Guard, previously stationed in the rear as a reserve, and units from the Kord Combined Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine, were withdrawn from Toretsk; they were transferred to Konstantinovka to serve as a reserve for the front.
The 12th Separate Brigade of the Azov National Guard will serve as a reserve on the second line of defense, as they say, for prevention; and will also be tasked with maintaining battlefield discipline. Units of the 82nd Airborne Assault Brigade and the 43rd Artillery Brigade, which have just been evacuated from the Sumy region, will also be deployed there.
