On the afternoon of June 22, the People's Committee of Vinh Yen city held a launching ceremony for the propaganda movement to prevent and combat crimes of fraud and property appropriation in cyberspace. In recent years, with the strong development of science and information technology, crimes using high technology to commit fraud and property appropriation in cyberspace have increased with many sophisticated and unpredictable tricks. According to statistics, in Vinh Yen city, from 2018 to May 2023, 2,079 reports related to crimes of fraud and property appropriation were received. In the first 6 months of 2023 alone, 250 reports were received, 3 cases were prosecuted, 0 defendants were arrested; 1 case is under investigation, 0 defendants.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of Vinh Yen City People's Committee Dao Van Quyet affirmed: Although the tricks of the fraudsters to appropriate property are not new, the way they approach victims is increasingly sophisticated and professional. They not only target low-income people, the unemployed, people with limited social knowledge, but also people with qualifications and stable jobs. This seriously affects security and order in the area, causing public outrage.
To prevent and promptly stop possible cases of property fraud, he suggested that the People's Committees of wards and communes, agencies, enterprises, educational institutions as well as organizations in the city step up propaganda on the prevention and fight against property fraud crimes according to the motto "4 no's, 2 needs".
In which, the "4 no's" include: Don't be afraid (don't panic when receiving phone calls, messages, information sent by strangers with bad content related to you and your relatives); don't be greedy (when a stranger calls or sends a message informing you that you have won a prize or received a large amount of money of unknown origin, do not believe them); do not make friends with strangers (when a stranger on social networks makes friends with you and you don't know who they are or what their purpose is, you should not make friends, start a conversation, especially do not provide personal information so that the subject can take advantage of you); do not do (when someone you don't know asks for personal information or asks to transfer money or do something, you absolutely must not do it).
“2 needs” include: Need to proactively secure personal information, especially important information such as citizen identification card information; bank account information; social network account information... When receiving calls, messages or content suspected of being fraudulent activities or having no basis to confirm the content, it is necessary to immediately report to law enforcement agencies for instructions on handling.
Vice Chairman of Vinh Yen City People's Committee Dao Van Quyet also suggested that the City Department of Culture and Information coordinate with the City Police to compile and develop propaganda articles to widely inform the people.
The City Police preside over and coordinate with professional units of the Provincial Police to resolutely combat and strictly handle acts of fraud and property appropriation on cyberspace, contributing to ensuring security and order and protecting the property of people in the area.
At the launching ceremony, representatives of the People's Committees of communes and wards in the city signed an emulation agreement to propagate the prevention and fight against crimes of fraud and property appropriation in cyberspace.
