Discovered jar containing human and turtle remains causing shock
A strange ceramic jar unearthed in the Amazon reveals a mysterious burial ritual, revealing how ancient people commemorated life and death thousands of years ago.

A tree suddenly fell in the Brazilian Amazon, right at the archaeological site of Lake Cochila, local villagers noticed something large and very strange lurking under the exposed roots. A total of seven jars were found, two of which were described as being very large, although it is currently unclear which ancient Amazonian culture they represent, or how long ago they were buried. Geórgea Layla Holanda, an archaeologist at the Mamirauá Institute, explained the unique features of the urns: “They are large in volume and lack ceramic lids, which suggests that they were sealed with long-decomposed organic materials.” The lack of ceramic lids raises interesting questions about the construction and sealing methods used by these ancient cultures.
