Authorities discovered a bean sprout production facility using banned substances.

Authorities in An Ve village, Truong Tan commune, Hai Phong city, discovered a facility using banned substances to produce bean sprouts for sale on the market.

Recently, the Truong Tan Commune Police, in coordination with Market Management Team No. 11 of the Hai Phong City Market Management Department and the Hai Phong City Food Safety and Hygiene Department, conducted an inspection at a production facility owned by Nguyen Van Len, born in 1971, residing in An Ve Hamlet, Truong Tan Commune, Hai Phong City. The facility, covering an area of ​​approximately 50 square meters, produces about 70 kg of bean sprouts daily. The facility showed several signs of violations, including the use of chemicals in the bean sprout production process.

Inside the workshop, authorities discovered 40 containers used for sprouting bean sprouts that did not meet hygiene standards; numerous empty containers used for sprouting and empty cans containing chemical solutions; and confiscated 229.62 kg of finished bean sprouts. Analysis revealed that the bean sprouts and three drums containing water used for sprout production contained 6-Benzylaminopurine (6-BAP), a growth stimulant not on the list of permitted substances.

According to the Hai Phong City Food Safety and Hygiene Department, this substance stimulates growth, helping bean sprouts develop quickly, with thick stems, short roots, and longer freshness.

The owner of the facility admitted to purchasing and using growth stimulants online to make bean sprouts grow faster and look more appealing, mixing them with water and applying them directly during production. Authorities are currently handling the case according to the law.
