Mysterious fireball appeared in the sky of Japan on the evening of May 10. (Source: Sputnik)
According to RT , strange burning objects in the sky were seen flying over Japan's Okinawa prefecture at around 8:30 p.m. on May 10. Most Japanese people in Okinawa were able to observe this object in the sky.
In the video recorded by NHK in Nah city - the southernmost point of Japan, the object glowed in the sky and seemed to burn up as it entered the atmosphere. NHK reporters initially thought it was fireworks but it was not, the object flew in a straight line and then disappeared into the night.
The Ishigakijima Astronomical Observatory, located in Ishigaki City on the Okinawa island chain, later confirmed that it had spotted a “bright streak” in the sky north of the observatory at 8:33 p.m. on May 10.

Many locals speculate that this mysterious object could be a meteorite or a shooting star.
While the objects have not been clearly identified, representatives of the Ishigakijima Observatory have offered a more plausible explanation. The mysterious objects that appeared in the sky over Okinawa could be debris from a Chinese rocket launched into orbit last November. They are expected to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere on May 10.
According to NHK , these objects only flew over Okinawa and fell into the sea north of the island chain.
“Meteorites and meteors may hit the Earth vertically or diagonally, like debris from satellites and rockets orbiting the Earth. So the debris may appear like the object in the sky over Okinawa, with a slow-moving trajectory into the atmosphere and nearly parallel to the Earth, and a longer burn-up time,” NHK said .
The Eta Aquarid meteor shower is also currently running from April 15 to May 27 every year - however the peak of this astronomical event happened last week.
