Promoting traditional cultural values of Muong ethnic group in Thanh Son

The preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in Thanh Son district in association with tourism development in recent times have been closely directed by local authorities and Party committees. In particular, promoting propaganda and mobilization work to raise people's awareness and responsibility in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.

Tat Thang is a mountainous commune with two ethnic groups living together, of which the Muong people account for 70% of the population. In recent years, the implementation of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group in the period of 2017-2020, oriented to 2025 and associated with tourism development in the area has always been interested, focused and promoted. Currently, the commune has a total of 3 sets of gongs, and some other popular musical instruments of the Muong ethnic group such as flutes, two-stringed fiddles... There are 2 provincial historical relics (Dinh Te and Dinh Ca) both located in the system of relics worshiping Duc Thanh Tan Vien, attracting a large number of people in the commune and neighboring areas to participate in the festival.

In addition, the commune is also focusing on activities such as: Collecting and preserving production tools in residential areas; restoring the melodies of singing vi, singing giang, gongs... of the Muong people.

Comrade Dinh Ngoc Son - Chairman of Tat Thang Commune People's Committee said: Preserving and promoting Muong ethnic identity associated with tourism development is considered by the local government as a key and central task. Encourage households with conditions to invest in infrastructure to develop community tourism, associated with preserving ethnic identity. At the same time, coordinate with the Association of War Veterans, Women's Union, Farmers' Association, Youth Union to propagate to all members and people about the cultural values of Muong ethnic group that need to be preserved and promoted".

In recent years, the implementation of Project 6 on "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the period of 2021-2025 has been directed by Thanh Son district to promote propaganda work, aiming to raise awareness and responsibility of people in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.

After the implementation of the Project's contents, the initial objectives have basically been met. Through that, the activities to support traditional art troupes have been implemented, contributing to reducing the gap in living standards and cultural enjoyment between localities and ethnic groups in the province; linking the task of economic development with the preservation and development of traditional cultures of ethnic groups, promoting the development of cultural tourism.

Currently, the district has 147 traditional art troupes in residential areas in communes with ethnic minorities and mountainous areas according to Decision 861/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2021 of the Prime Minister . In the 2 years of 2022-2023, the district has supported 4 art troupes including: Art troupe of Vach area (Kha Cuu commune); Art troupe of Tu Chan area (Thuong Cuu commune); Art troupe of Bai (Dong Cuu commune); Art troupe of Quyet Tien area (Dich Qua commune). The total cost of the project is 542 million VND, the disbursement progress is 542 million VND. Accordingly, the expenses are for purchasing costumes, props, and sound equipment for art troupes; expenses for guiding the organization, staging, and performance of art activities. Along with that, investment support for the preservation of traditional cultural villages of the Muong ethnic group in association with tourism development in Kha Cuu commune, Thanh Son district has also been deployed. The total cost of the project is 3 billion VND.

Preserving and promoting Muong ethnic identity associated with tourism development is considered by Thanh Son district as a key task, contributing to local socio-economic development.

Comrade Pham Tu - Vice Chairman of Thanh Son District People's Committee said: In order to implement the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period, the district continues to promote propaganda to raise people's awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting national cultural identity associated with effective and sustainable tourism development. At the same time, promote potentials, promote tourism to develop more and more, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Promoting the implementation of the contents of Project 6 will contribute to promoting the role of the subject and creativity of the people of Thanh Son district's ethnic groups and the participation of the entire political system, especially the people, beneficiaries of the program, thereby contributing to sustainable tourism development.
