For many years, the road connecting the former Gio Hai and Gio Mai communes (now part of Cua Viet commune), specifically the section passing through Nhi Trung village, has been a source of concern for local residents. With a length of 3km and a concrete surface approximately 3m wide, it has deteriorated and is riddled with potholes.

Therefore, when they received news that the road would be upgraded and paved with asphalt in 2024, the people were very excited, even though the project directly affected 16 households. Recognizing that mobilization was the "key" to success, the Party Committee of Nhi Trung village and the Village Front Committee quickly established a community mobilization team, implementing the motto "going to every alley, knocking on every door, identifying every individual," to persuade the people to donate land for the road construction.

During the land donation and clearance campaign for road upgrades and expansion, Mr. Hoang Cong An's family was one of the households most affected in terms of property. However, setting aside personal interests, after being informed about the policy by the Party Committee and the Village Front Committee, Mr. An set a leading example. Not only did he hand over a large area of ​​residential land, but his family also agreed to dismantle the sturdy concrete fence they had recently built, costing tens of millions of dong. They even donated additional land to widen the public road in front of their house, making it easier for residents to travel.

"When roads are damaged, the people are the first to be affected, so when the government invests, we must contribute to having wide, convenient roads for travel. That's the long-term benefit," Mr. An shared.

According to Nguyen Thi Hong, Secretary of the Nhi Trung Village Party Branch, the process of propaganda and persuasion is not always smooth. For example, with households whose land is affected by the gate pillars of their ancestral temple, because this is a matter related to beliefs and spirituality, dismantling requires the consent of descendants in the family, including those living and working in other localities.

To overcome this "bottleneck," the Party Committee and the Village Front Committee adopted a "slow and steady" approach, dedicating considerable time to meetings to persuade and clarify the meaning and benefits of the project. Thanks to these heartfelt and reasonable dialogues, the psychological "obstacle" was gradually removed, leading to the family's agreement to hand over the land, ensuring the construction progress.

To have the wide, well-maintained, asphalt-paved inter-village road that exists today, 16 households in Nhi Trung village voluntarily donated over 5,100 square meters of land, cut down 365 trees, and dismantled 25 meters of fence to hand over the land on schedule. The total value of their contribution from land and assets on the land is estimated at over 400 million VND.

In addition, the villagers contributed over 100 million VND to install a lighting system and plant flowers along the roads, beautifying the village lanes and alleys. This is the result of the great consensus between "the Party's will and the people's aspirations" in the new rural development program.

Leveraging the core role

Nhi Trung village currently has 312 households with 1,173 inhabitants. The village Party branch has 33 active members. To ensure that the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style are effective, the Party branch has skillfully integrated this content into regular and thematic meetings, thereby creating positive changes in the awareness and actions of each cadre and Party member.

Imbued with Ho Chi Minh's ideology on promoting grassroots democracy, the Party branch has effectively mobilized resources from the people to build a civilized residential area. Through the "Green Saturday" model, the village landscape has been beautified and cleaned thanks to the joint efforts of numerous Youth Union members, young people, and farmers' association members.

According to Nguyen Dang Khoa, Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch and Head of Nhi Trung village, in terms of economic development, the locality maintains a stable cultivated area of ​​250 hectares, with rice yields reaching 53-61 quintals/hectare. In particular, the experimental model of 10 hectares of five-veined melaleuca trees on sandy soil, with support from the Forestry Research Institute, is a promising model for restructuring crop patterns and contributing to increased income for the people.

In addition, 35 workers currently employed abroad contribute over 15 billion VND per year (accounting for 38% of the village's total income). Thanks to the diversification of income sources, the average per capita income in Nhi Trung village has reached over 60 million VND per year, and the material living standards have continuously improved.

The bond between the Party's will and the people's aspirations in Nhi Trung is growing stronger thanks to the exemplary spirit of the Party members. This is the solid foundation for the village to maintain a rate of culturally exemplary families above 99% and build a strong people's security network. In addition, humanitarian activities such as promoting education and talent are regularly implemented with an annual fund of 30-40 million VND. Social welfare work is also a highlight, with the Party branch mobilizing over 65 million VND to support disadvantaged households and 80 million VND to assist people affected by natural disasters.

Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People's Council of Cua Viet commune, affirmed that to achieve these proud accomplishments, the Nhi Trung village Party branch skillfully concretized the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style into each political task in the locality. The exemplary spirit and the motto "leading the way" of each Party member have built strong trust among the people, creating a foundation for resolving bottlenecks, weaknesses, and difficult issues. As a result, Nhi Trung village received commendations from the People's Committee of Gio Linh district (formerly) for three consecutive years in the "All People Protect National Security" movement.

The Nhi Trung village Party branch also had the honor of being one of four collectives selected by the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department to be nominated and honored at the propaganda and education activities on the theme of studying and following Uncle Ho's example in 2026, organized by the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department. This is a great source of encouragement for the Party branch to continue innovating and deepening the study and emulation of Uncle Ho's example.
