Developing tourism products associated with Xoan singing in a sustainable direction

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province, Pham Thi Minh Loi, said: In recent years, Phu Tho province has made efforts to turn Xoan singing into a typical tourism product of the Ancestral Land, creating a strong attraction for domestic and international tourists.

Performance spaces, exhibition areas and relic sites associated with the original Xoan guilds have been gradually invested in and exploited effectively, both serving tourists and harmonizing two goals: Preserving heritage and developing community tourism .

The conference to review the implementation of the Project to preserve and promote the values of the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, Xoan singing of Phu Tho in the period of 2020-2025, is an important occasion to review the outstanding results and valuable lessons in the work of preserving and transmitting the heritage, thereby determining the direction, tasks and practical solutions for the next stage.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage Nguyen Viet Cuong acknowledged and commended the outstanding results in the work of preserving and promoting the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity - Phu Tho Xoan singing. In recent times, under the direction of authorities at all levels and the active participation of the host community and artisans, Xoan singing continues to be practiced regularly, and its cultural values spread widely in life.

In order for the heritage to be preserved sustainably in the next phase, the leaders of the Department of Cultural Heritage proposed that Phu Tho province and departments, branches and localities focus on a number of key tasks such as promoting propaganda and education on the value of Xoan singing associated with the worship of Hung Kings, creating a widespread influence in the community; continuing to organize well the practice and teaching activities in the original Xoan guilds and in schools, ensuring the standards and continuity of the heritage; perfecting the mechanism and policies for the treatment of artisans; supporting the maintenance of the activities of Xoan guilds and Xoan singing clubs; allocating the budget and mobilizing socialized resources for conservation work; developing tourism products associated with Xoan singing in a sustainable direction; promoting the digitization of documents and data on Xoan singing using modern technology, ensuring convenient and safe storage and exploitation.

In the endless flow of national culture, Xoan singing of Phu Tho is not only the pride of the people of the Hung Kings' Land but also a living proof of the endurance and strong vitality of Vietnamese culture.

In 2011, Xoan singing was listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. Thanks to the persistent efforts of Vietnam, Phu Tho province and the practicing community, by 2017, UNESCO had removed Xoan singing from this list, affirming the effectiveness of conservation work. Since then, Phu Tho Xoan singing has officially become a representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - a milestone affirming the stature and eternal value of the heritage of the homeland.

From a folk song genre associated with the village communal house, Xoan singing in Phu Tho has risen to become a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the pride of the Fatherland and the Vietnamese people. With the joint efforts of all levels and sectors, the dedication of the artisan community and the support of international friends, Xoan singing continues to affirm its enduring vitality, becoming a bridge connecting the past with the present and towards the future. This precious heritage is contributing to writing a new journey for the country, spreading the image of a friendly, powerful and culturally rich Vietnam.
