More than 20 tons of goods from Vietnam Law Newspaper have reached the flood victims in Phu Yen.

Departing from Dong Nai at 2am, the working group of Vietnam Law Newspaper arrived in time to give gifts to encourage the people of Phu Yen to soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

A great source of encouragement for the people

At 2:00 a.m. on November 27, a truck carrying 20 tons of goods from officers, reporters, and workers of Vietnam Law Newspaper departed from Tran Bien, Dong Nai province to reach the people in the flood-affected areas.

After more than 7 hours, the working delegation arrived at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Phu Yen ward, Dak Lak province .

Welcoming the delegation and receiving the gifts from the Vietnam Law Newspaper sent to the people, Mr. Tran Xuan Tuc , Secretary of the Phu Yen Ward Party Committee, was moved to say: The timely presence of the Vietnam Law Newspaper is a great source of encouragement for the ward government and people. Mr. Tuc committed that the gifts will be distributed publicly, transparently and to the right recipients, ensuring that the hearts of those who send them reach the right recipients. "These gifts not only help people have more material things to overcome difficult times, but also give them more spirit to start over after the natural disaster," Mr. Tuc affirmed.

Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Hieu - Deputy Head of the Representative Office of Vietnam Law Newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City - emphasized that the spirit of "helping each other" is always the connecting thread between Vietnam Law Newspaper and society and community.

Mr. Hieu shared: “We always follow the flood situation in Dak Lak and sympathize with the losses that people are suffering. We hope that these gifts will help people have more encouragement to stabilize their lives.” . That sincere sharing once again affirms the role of the press agency is not only to convey information, but also to contribute to sharing social responsibility with the community.

Receiving the gift from the staff of Phap Luat Viet Nam newspaper, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh was extremely moved, but still shocked when recalling the moment the floodwaters rushed into her house. Mrs. Binh said that the water rose in just a few minutes, forcing the whole family to climb onto the roof trusses to avoid the strong current. “The water rose so fast, so fast that I didn’t have time to call my children. We just hugged each other and trembled, thinking that we would no longer have a chance to see the dawn when the water rose close to the roof and we had to lift the roof and raise our heads to call for help ,” she said, her voice choked as she recalled that horrifying memory.

Mr. Chau Van Dong (65 years old, Ward 1, Phu Yen Ward) was so moved that he was speechless when he received the relief goods from the working group of Vietnam Law Newspaper. Mr. Dong said that the flood that came unexpectedly at night had swept away almost all the household items that his family had saved up for their entire life. "When we didn't know where to turn, the gifts you brought were like a warm hand helping us stand up," Mr. Dong said sadly, his eyes red from many sleepless nights.

Not only the elderly, but also healthy young people in the ward could not hide their panic when recalling the night of flood. Mr. Tran Van Tuu, a local young man, recalled that just a few minutes after hearing the cry, the water rose up to his chest, sweeping away all the furniture in the house. "I have never seen the water rise so fast. We could only help each other run to higher ground and pray for morning," he shared. When the rescue team appeared, the whole Ward 1 seemed to be given more strength to overcome the feeling of exhaustion after sleepless nights. Ward 1 was identified as the most severely damaged place in Phu Yen ward, including 18 households in especially difficult circumstances.

Continue to work hard to overcome the damage

Mr. Tran Xuan Tuc - Secretary of Phu Yen Ward Party Committee said that as of 2:00 p.m. on November 27, Phu Yen Ward was still urgently implementing measures to overcome the damage after the biggest flood in many years. A quick report from Phu Yen Ward People's Committee said that the total initial damage was estimated at more than 54 billion VND, directly affecting 10,455 households with 35,507 people, causing severe impacts on people's lives, activities and production.

According to statistics, the flood submerged dozens of neighborhoods, more than 10,000 houses were flooded 1-2 meters deep, many household items such as refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions were completely damaged. 34 houses collapsed at different levels, of which 5 collapsed completely. Local educational facilities also suffered heavy damage when 7/12 schools were flooded, damaging many teaching equipment, functional rooms, and boarding facilities. In the education sector alone, the estimated damage was 3.4 billion VND.

Agricultural production and livestock were severely damaged when 834.8 tons of rice, 4.2 hectares of vegetables, hundreds of tons of bran, fertilizers and thousands of livestock and poultry were swept away. Aquaculture was also severely affected with nearly 11 tons of fish damaged. For businesses, the total damage was recorded at about 10.8 billion VND and is still being counted. The ward's traffic and irrigation infrastructure was severely damaged. Nguyen Van Linh Street was eroded for about 200m, Ong Dam Bridge was at risk of collapsing, many sections of the road had potholes and the slope was washed away.

Notably, the North-South railway section from Km1205+00 to Km1205+900 suffered from roadbed erosion, forcing the railway industry to urgently handle the situation to ensure transport safety. Canals, pumping stations, and drainage culverts were severely damaged, with 18.6 km of canals and 24 culverts being eroded.

Meanwhile, many cultural relics such as Phu Nong Communal House, Phu Le Communal House, Lam Phu Lam and Dong Tac Tomb were flooded to a depth of 1.5-2m, causing serious damage to facilities and artifacts, with total estimated damage of 5.63 billion VND. Technical infrastructure such as electric poles, trees and loudspeaker systems were also severely damaged. Relief and recovery work is being vigorously deployed by Phu Yen ward.

According to information from local leaders, up to now, the locality has received 5.5 tons of clothes, 3,252 boxes of water, 2,900 boxes of noodles - porridge - cakes, 147 boxes of milk, 103 tons of rice and more than 123 tons of necessities. A total of 15,423 gifts have been given to households, of which 43.17 tons of rice have been supported for 1,439 households.

Environmental sanitation and disinfection work has been stepped up at schools, markets, roads and residential areas to prevent post-flood epidemics. Electricity and clean water have been restored throughout the ward since November 26, helping people stabilize their lives. Schools have reopened since November 26 after completing disinfection and sanitation. At the same time, the authorities and people of Phu Yen ward are also preparing all conditions to be ready to cope with the approaching storm No. 15, in order to minimize damage as much as possible.

Mr. Tuc also represented the People's Committee of Phu Yen Ward to propose that the province and relevant departments continue to provide funding for repairing traffic, irrigation, relics and supporting damaged houses. In particular, people need 7,316 m² of corrugated iron and 8,680 m² of purlins to repair their houses. It is expected that the local reconstruction process will continue and more resources will be needed to help thousands of households stabilize their lives soon.

All of these goods were donated by the staff, reporters, collaborators of the Southeast region of the Vietnam Law Newspaper Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City and partners under the direction of Dr. Vu Hoai Nam, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper; demonstrating the spirit of sharing and community responsibility of journalists at a time when people in flood-affected areas are facing many difficulties.

The amount of goods that Vietnam Law Newspaper supports people this time is about more than 20 tons, including 35 types of essential goods, meeting the urgent living needs of households in disaster areas. Among them are 6,000 chicken eggs, 5 tons of delicious sticky rice (packed 5kg/bag), more than 3,200 boxes of milk, more than 860 boxes of other types of noodles.

In addition to food, the delegation also donated many daily necessities such as white sugar, laundry detergent, cakes, and more than 5,700 bottles of bottled water from many brands. These essential items helped people maintain their daily lives in the first days of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, when local resources were limited.

In addition to food, the program also provides many items for daily life and disease prevention after floods such as gloves, raincoats, warm blankets, rice paper, sanitary napkins, clean, sorted used clothes, diapers, dishwashing liquid, toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrushes and many essential medicines. These are all items that are often in short supply during and after prolonged floods.

Responding to the spirit of "Mutual love and support", joining hands for people in flood-affected areas, Vietnam Law Newspaper launched a call for support, hoping to receive attention and sharing from agencies, units, businesses, social organizations and philanthropists nationwide to contribute to timely support for people in flood-affected areas to overcome difficulties.
