Developing tourism, actively contributing to economic growth goals

(Baohatinh.vn) - In recent times, appropriate policies and guidelines along with the synchronous participation of localities have helped Ha Tinh tourism have strong movements, contributing positively to economic growth.

Once a struggling farmer with many jobs to make a living, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu (Nhan Hoa residential group, Thien Cam commune) has "changed" dramatically when he decided to invest in building a homestay model at Thien Cam Tourist Area in 2022. In just 3 years, the new direction has helped him stabilize his life, with an income many times higher than before.

“From the State’s tourism development policy, combined with changes in awareness, I found a way to do sustainable tourism. Over the past time, my homestay has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors, not only bringing economic value but also contributing to the locality in building Thien Cam into an attractive and friendly destination,” Mr. Phu shared.

Thanks to the shift to building a tourism model, Nguyen Van Phu (blue striped shirt) has changed his life.

Not only Mr. Phu, dozens of other families in Thien Cam are also changing their mindset, boldly investing in the tourism sector. This summer alone, the tourist area has had 6 more accommodation facilities with more than 200 rooms built by local people. Along with nearly 50 restaurants and 41 existing accommodation facilities, Thien Cam is increasingly vibrant, attracting a large number of visitors and generating hundreds of billions of VND in revenue each year (of which, in May and June 2025 alone, Thien Cam tourist area's revenue is estimated to reach 233 billion VND).

The development of tourism has led to a great demand for consumption of seafood, agricultural products, and local OCOP products. Fishermen are more enthusiastic about going to sea; processing facilities increase their operating capacity. A typical example is the OCOP product production facility of Ms. Hoang Thi Lich - Director of Cua Nhuong Seafood Cooperative, specializing in processing seafood products. Each year, Ms. Lich's facility supplies the market with dozens of tons of products, with revenue reaching tens of billions of VND. Not only that, she also cooperates with many OCOP models in the area, opens booths to display and consume products in Thien Cam, bringing a unique experience space for visitors.

The increase in the number of tourists has led to the development of agricultural, fishery and service production sectors.

Similar to Thien Cam, Xuan Thanh beach resort (Tien Dien commune) has also grown strongly in recent years thanks to increased investment. Spacious infrastructure, clean environment, and diverse services have helped this place attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, creating jobs for hundreds of workers. Thanks to that, the local economy has clearly changed, contributing to making the old Xuan Thanh commune, now part of Tien Dien commune, the first commune in Nghi Xuan district (old) to achieve the model NTM standard.

Not only focusing on sea tourism, Ha Tinh also promotes the development of eco-tourism, community tourism, and rural tourism. Many areas that used to be arid and wild, such as Thach Xuan commune, have now taken on a new look. A typical example is Da Bac Eco-tourism Area, which has been in operation since 2022 and has now become an attractive destination for tourists from near and far. Mr. Nguyen Minh Trang - owner of the tourist area shared: "It is thanks to the policies encouraging tourism development and my love for my homeland that have inspired me to create an ecological space imbued with local identity, both serving tourists and promoting the beauty of the land where I was born".

From a "barren, rocky" area in Thach Xuan commune, Mr. Nguyen Minh Trang has built the green Da Bac Eco-tourism Area, attracting a large number of visitors to visit and experience.

Along with economic value, tourism development also helps preserve and promote the unique cultural values of Ha Tinh. Ca Tru, Vi and Giam folk singing clubs, heritages recognized by UNESCO, are gradually becoming impressive spiritual tourism products. At Nguyen Cong Tru relic site (Nghi Xuan commune), every week, 2-3 groups of visitors come to listen to Ca Tru performances; at Xuan Thanh tourist area (Tien Dien commune), weekend art nights performing Vi and Giam folk singing have become popular meeting places for tourists.

Artisan Thuy Diem (Tien Dien commune) excitedly shared: “Many domestic and foreign tourists love us so much that they give us gifts and lucky money after the Vi and Giam performances. Such sentiments are a great source of encouragement for us to be more enthusiastic about preserving and spreading our heritage.”

At Hai Thuong Cultural Ecotourism Area (Huong Son Commune), the Board of Directors and local authorities have made efforts to develop many tourism products associated with the heritage of the Great Physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, creating unique highlights imbued with culture. Exploiting the spiritual values, people, and landscapes of the La River - Hong Mountain area is bringing new and unique tourism products.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the past 3 years, Ha Tinh tourism industry has had stable growth, the number of tourists is increasing day by day (in 2023 it will reach 3.36 million; in 2024 it will reach 5.6 million; in 2025 it is expected to reach 6.5 million). The growth of tourism has clearly contributed to the overall economic growth, job creation, and improvement of people's lives.

Mr. Duong Minh Binh - Vietnam's leading expert on community tourism, currently investing in the CBT model in Yen Diem village (Loc Ha commune) said: "In many localities such as Mai Hich, Hang Kia - Pa Co (Phu Tho province, formerly Hoa Binh province), Hua Tat (Son La), Pu Luong, Ba Thuoc (Thanh Hoa) ... after we successfully built the community tourism model, people's lives have changed significantly. I believe that the CBT model in Yen Diem village, which is about to open, will also bring positive effects, promote economic development, preserve culture, and protect the environment. Ha Tinh has full potential in nature and people, if exploited in the right direction, tourism will be a sustainable development industry for the future".

Mr. Duong Minh Binh - Vietnam's CBT community tourism expert encouraged and guided Mr. Duong Van Duc (2nd from left) to build the Thinh Loc CBT model in February 2025 and the current progress of the project (July 8, 2025).

Affirming the central role of the tourism industry, Ms. Vo Thi Thu Hien - Head of Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) emphasized: "In the latest provincial planning, tourism is identified as one of the four key economic sectors. In the coming time, we will continue to advise on appropriate policies, take advantage of the two-level local government model, and at the same time promote strong participation from the grassroots level, businesses, and people to develop comprehensive and effective tourism".

From Thien Cam, Tien Dien to Thach Xuan, Loc Ha, Huong Son… it shows that tourism development has become a catalyst to revive the seemingly forgotten potentials of each village. With the right movements in development, the "smokeless industry" not only contributes to promoting the economy but also honors culture, creates identity, and elevates the position of the homeland of Hong Mountain - La River in the flow of integration, entering a new era.
