In recent years, Vietnam tourism has been on the rise, with the number of international visitors as well as domestic tourists increasing. Vietnam tourism is becoming more and more well-known in the world, with many domestic destinations voted as favorite destinations for international tourists. Decision No. 509/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister sets out the general goal of the plan until 2025, Vietnam becomes an attractive destination with high tourism development capacity in the world. By 2030, tourism will truly become a spearhead economic sector, developing in the direction of green growth; becoming a destination with leading development capacity in the world.
With the view of developing tourism to truly become a spearhead economic sector, in a professional, modern and in-depth direction; accounting for an increasingly high proportion in the GDP structure, creating a driving force to promote other industries and fields; making an important contribution to the formation of a modern economic structure. Developing international tourism at the same time as effectively exploiting domestic tourism; effectively promoting the driving role of businesses and communities; enhancing the effectiveness of industry linkages between tourism and other industries and fields and regional, local and international linkages. On the basis of effectively exploiting national potential and advantages, promoting human factors, taking Vietnamese cultural values as the foundation; linking tourism development with preserving and promoting the value of heritage and national cultural identity, associated with digital transformation, taking advantage of the achievements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution; improving quality and competitiveness. In particular, developing sustainable and creative tourism on the basis of green growth, maximizing tourism's contribution to the United Nations' sustainable development goals; protecting the environment, responding flexibly and effectively to risks and climate change; ensuring security, national defense, and social order and safety. Specifically, in 2025, strive to welcome 25 - 28 million international visitors; 130 million domestic visitors, maintaining a domestic visitor growth rate of 8 - 9%/year. By 2030, welcome 35 million international visitors, a growth rate of 13 - 15%/year; welcome 160 million domestic visitors, a domestic visitor growth rate of 4 - 5%/year, tourism's contribution to GDP: In 2025, it will directly contribute 8 - 9% to GDP; By 2030, it will directly contribute 13 - 14% to GDP, demand for accommodation rooms: In 2025, about 1.3 million rooms; by 2030, about 2 million rooms. In 2025, it will create about 6.3 million jobs, of which about 2.1 million are direct jobs; by 2030, it will create about 10.5 million jobs, of which about 3.5 million are direct jobs. Regarding culture and society : Tourism contributes to preserving and promoting cultural values, creating livelihoods for the community, contributing to the successful implementation of national target programs; improving people's knowledge and spiritual life. Regarding the environment: Developing sustainable tourism associated with environmental protection; effectively responding to climate change. By 2030, 100% of tourist areas and spots; Tourist accommodation establishments and other coastal service businesses do not use disposable plastic products and hard-to-decompose nylon bags.
