Circular Economy in Agriculture: A Path to Sustainable Development in APEC Economies

Developing a circular economy in agriculture: The path to sustainable development in APEC economies. This is the theme of the international workshop organized by the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development in collaboration with the Department of International Cooperation and the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Hanoi in both in-person and online formats.

The workshop took place over 02 days (October 24-25, 2024) with 03 main contents: Current status of development, importance, benefits and policies related to circular agriculture in Vietnam and other APEC economies; sharing some good practice models on circular agriculture from enterprises, cooperatives, farms in the field of agricultural products, food and seafood in Vietnam; roadmap and recommendations for developing circular agriculture in Vietnam and other APEC economies with 04 sessions on: i) Potential of circular economy in agriculture: Explore global challenges to current farming methods in APEC economies and the need to transition to a circular economy; ii) Circular business models in agriculture: Explore and share experiences and practices of circular economic models in APEC economies with innovation and technology to develop a multi-value agriculture; iii) Policies to promote circular economy in agriculture: Introduce existing legal frameworks, strategies, national approaches and policy options for agri-food systems in APEC economies, and introduce international tools to support APEC economies in identifying and implementing circular economy interventions in agricultural practices; iv) The future of circular economy in APEC economies: Discuss next steps to promote sustainability in agri-food systems and accelerate the adoption of circular economy innovations in agricultural value chains. The workshop is an opportunity for delegates to share and exchange knowledge and experience on best practices in circular agriculture between Vietnam and APEC economies, contributing to enhancing the participation and cooperation of stakeholders in circular agriculture. In addition, the Workshop also contributes to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and APEC member countries by creating favorable conditions for policy makers, businesses and researchers to exchange and promote mutually beneficial cooperative relationships, promote the application and development of circular agriculture among APEC countries./.
