Developing agriculture towards green economy

Continuing to restructure the economy and establishing a new growth model, in which agriculture is oriented towards ecological and sustainable development, based on high technology and digital transformation, is identified as one of the key tasks by the Resolution of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.

This is a strategic move, opening a new chapter for the province's agricultural sector after the merger, towards a green, circular and high value-added economy .

Dak Lak province has great potential in agricultural development. The resonance between forests and seas is a solid foundation to reshape the agricultural sector, not only as a pillar of the economy but also as a breakthrough growth driver.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the province's agricultural sector has developed strongly in the direction of high quality and sustainability. The growth rate of GRDP of agriculture, forestry and fishery in this period is estimated at 5.24%/year (1.5 times higher than the national average). Cultivation continues to be the key sector, accounting for about 70% of the value of agricultural production.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD), after the province merger, Dak Lak is still the “capital” of coffee in Vietnam, accounting for about 30-35% of the country’s coffee output. In particular, the geographical indication of Buon Ma Thuot Coffee is protected in 32 countries and territories, affirming the position of Dak Lak coffee beans in the global market.

In the context of many fluctuations and challenges, Dak Lak has made efforts to synchronously deploy many adaptive solutions such as: transforming the farming model to a smart and sustainable direction; enhancing the application of technology in production and processing; developing specialty coffee and high-quality coffee; participating deeply in global value chains; expanding export markets to potential areas in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. At the same time, promoting links between farmers - businesses - scientists - authorities to improve the competitiveness of the local coffee industry.

However, besides the achievements, the province's agricultural sector still faces many challenges such as: fragmented production, unsynchronized application of science and technology and environmental pollution in production areas... These are "bottlenecks" that require fundamental and breakthrough solutions in restructuring the sector in the coming period.

Dak Lak 2-9 Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak) is a leading enterprise in linking with 50,000 farming households, building sustainable raw material areas, meeting strict international standards such as 4C, RA, FLO, especially the EU's deforestation-free farming standard (EUDR). Cooperating with large corporations in the world to deploy emission-reducing and organic agriculture models is the right direction, demonstrating the company's vision and responsibility. Digital transformation is also comprehensively applied by the company from administrative management, business to raw material area management.

Mr. Le Duc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Members of Simexco Daklak, said that a major concern is that although Dak Lak is famous for its raw coffee output, it is not yet widely known for its deep-processed products such as roasted and ground coffee. The company wishes to pioneer and call for investment cooperation in building deep-processing centers for coffee and other agricultural and aquatic products of the province.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Phu Yen High-Tech Agricultural Zone Management Board, said that high-tech agriculture is a breakthrough in the province's agricultural restructuring roadmap. In the 2026 - 2030 period, the High-Tech Agricultural Zone will continue to effectively implement the contents of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; strengthen investment promotion; continue to research, receive and perfect technological processes suitable to local conditions, contributing to the sustainable development of agriculture in the new situation...

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Minh Huan emphasized that the Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to advise on restructuring the province's agriculture and environment sector towards green agriculture, low emissions, application of science and technology and digital transformation for rapid and sustainable development in the period of 2026 - 2030 in accordance with Dak Lak province after the merger.

To realize the Resolution of the 1st Provincial Party Congress in the field of agriculture, the Department of Agriculture and Environment focuses on solutions: focusing on reviewing planning, orienting concentrated production areas, specializing in key products and typical products of the province; promoting research, application, transfer of science and technology and digital transformation in agricultural production stages; promoting mechanization, automation of agriculture and development of agricultural processing industry, industry serving agriculture and logistics services, forms of production organization, linkage according to value chain; enhancing promotion, building brands, trademarks and expanding the market for agricultural products.

Restructuring the agriculture and environment sector not only brings internal benefits but is also the key to deep integration in the global race towards Net zero, contributing to enhancing the position and value of Dak Lak agricultural products in the international arena.
