Despite pilot error, the Polar Airlines Antonov-24 landed safely on the frozen Kolyma River near the town of Zyryanka in the Republic of Yakutia in Russia's Far East.
"According to preliminary information, the cause of this civil aviation accident was crew confusion," Reuters quoted a spokesman for the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities released several photos of the plane above a frozen river. Izvestia newspaper carried the story with photos of passengers leaving the plane.
Rescue teams help passengers leave plane on glacier
"The Antonov-24 landed outside the runway of Zyryanka airport," Polar Airlines confirmed in a statement.
There were a total of 30 passengers and 4 crew members on board when the plane landed on the glacier. There were no casualties and the plane was not damaged in this incident.
