According to statistics from Exhibitor Relations, as of June 8, the film had earned $335.8 million in the North American market and $436 million overseas. Accordingly, the film's total global revenue was $772.6 million. In just 17 days, the revenue in the North American market of the live-action version of "Lilo & Stitch" surpassed the new version of "The Little Mermaid" released in 2023 ($298 million).
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, “Lilo & Stitch” is not simply a remake, but a fresh, emotional version of the special friendship between a lonely Hawaiian girl and an alien on the run. Not only conquering children, the film also touches the hearts of adults with its message of family, healing and gentle connections that transcend all boundaries.
The runner-up spot at the North American box office last week belonged to the newcomer “Ballerina” - a spin-off of “John Wick”, with a revenue of only 25 million USD from 3,409 theaters in the US and Canada. Previously, the film was expected to bring in about 35 - 40 million USD, but that number was later adjusted down many times. The final result, the film directed by Len Wiseman still had lower revenue than expected. Expert David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research commented that this was a “weak” debut for a dramatic action film.
Ballerina is set between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4. The film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) on her journey to avenge her father, under the training of the criminal organization Ruska Roma. The work brings together a famous cast such as Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McShane or Sooyoung...
The action blockbuster “Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning” dropped to third place with a revenue of 15 million USD, bringing the total global revenue to 450.4 million USD. “Karate Kid: Legends” - a martial arts film by Sony, earned 8.7 million USD, ranking 4th. In 5th place is “Final Destination: Bloodlines” with a revenue of 6.5 million USD.
