The auction of love

In late November, after Nong Son commune had just experienced several consecutive severe floods, a heartwarming activity was initiated by teachers and students: a recycled fashion auction titled "Rebirth of Style - Rebirth of Hope," aimed at supporting the people of Dak Lak after the floods.

The event originated from a lesson on " Fashion Design" using recycled clothing in the 9th grade Art curriculum. In many lessons, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Minh, an art teacher at Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School (Nong Son commune), guided students in observing materials, analyzing styles, and creating new designs from old clothes; from developing ideas, selecting materials, constructing the form, to decorating the finished product.

“When grading the assignments, I was truly surprised. The students not only followed the instructions correctly but were also very creative, transforming old shirts into handbags, small wallets, or accessories with high aesthetic value. Based on the quality of the products, I thought I could do more: connect the lesson with real life and spread the spirit of sharing. That's how the idea of organizing an auction was born,” Mr. Minh shared.

During the product preparation days, the art room corner is always brightly lit. Some groups meticulously unravel old seams, others carefully reshape the bags, and still others select wooden beads and ribbons for decoration.

Dinh Gia Han, a student in class 9/1, lovingly holds the recycled bag that her group just finished making from durable, stylish denim fabric. "By making this bag, I hope the person bidding will feel the heartfelt sentiment we're sending to the people of Dak Lak ," Han shared.

Another member, Nguyen Nam Phuong, excitedly showed off a bag made from an old school uniform with an asymmetrical bow as a highlight. Phuong said, "This is the first time I've designed a product myself. When I heard Mr. Minh say he would auction it off to help flood victims, I tried even harder to make it look even better."

The finished products were auctioned off on the Facebook page "After-School Activities" and attracted considerable interest from parents, alumni, and local residents.

Mr. Ho Van Nhan, Principal of Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School, was moved to see the exquisite products made by the students' own hands. Mr. Nhan shared: "The auction activity is not only an art lesson, but also a lesson in compassion and community responsibility, which the school always wants to nurture."

At exactly 7:00 AM on November 26th, the auction officially opened on Mr. Minh's personal Facebook page.

Each hour features a different product, each with its own story: a bag made from an old uniform with a decorative bow; a tote bag crafted from a shirt with meticulously stitched seams; a recycled denim bag that is both durable and youthful…

Under each post, dozens of shares and comments poured in, and the bidding numbers continuously increased. Many parents, former students, and citizens participated with the spirit of "buying products while also showing goodwill."

Teacher Nguyen Chi Trung, the Vice Principal who facilitated the connection, shared: "Seeing students create real value from things that were thought to be discarded, and then using those products to help others, I believe this is an experience that will stay with them for life."

The auction ended at 12 noon on November 27th. For the teachers and students of Phan Chau Trinh Secondary School, its significance will go far beyond just the numbers.

When the money from the auction is sent to students in the flood-affected areas of Dak Lak, it will not only be material support but also a spiritual gift from the children of the low-lying Nong Son area, students who have experienced floods many times.

Above all, the activity has become a profound lesson in communication: instilling in students a sense of sharing, community responsibility, compassion, and environmental protection from an early age. These simple yet meaningful experiences will contribute to shaping a generation of young people who are compassionate, appreciate the value of recycling, and understand the beauty that stems from kindness.
