Director Bui Thac Chuyen and his crew spent a lot of effort and time to recreate that heroic historical period. The production process faced many difficulties.

In the film, the simulated tunnel scene is recreated as realistically as possible with the advice of People's Armed Forces Hero To Van Duc - a guerrilla who once lived and fought in the Cu Chi tunnels.
This was both a success for the crew, but also a challenge because filming was more difficult in a confined space.
After many trials, each section of the tunnel was made from different materials, but the final layer was still soil. The surface was then colored, animated, or added with tree roots, etc. to create a sense of authenticity and variety.
According to DOP (director of photography) K'Linh, the first difficulty when starting to film was the terrain and lighting in the simulated tunnel. He revealed: “I didn't know how to film this film. About 6 months before filming, I was very confused. There was no space to place the lights in the simulated tunnel, making it difficult to move the equipment around.”

Because the space was too narrow to set up a camera track, all the shots had to be done by hand, to get the most “human” and realistic look.
Director Bui Thac Chuyen kept the lighting in the film purely the oil lamps and flashlights of the soldiers, instead of using other lighting equipment to make filming easier.
Initially, the complex terrain of this special “shooting set” made the image so shaky that it was unusable. The film crew had to do serious physical training to get used to moving, carrying the camera, and filming in the tunnel. The shooting time was 6 times longer than other movies, because the limited space made every step longer.

In addition to the underground set in the studio, the film crew also filmed outside in a forest along the Saigon River in Cu Chi. Filming a war film about Cu Chi right on Cu Chi land brought the crew and cast indescribable emotions.
The film crew took full advantage of the available conditions to realistically recreate a ruined base under the bombs of the US army, which used to be a beloved village.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 4.
