Vice Chairman of FPT University Council Hoang Nam Tien passed away

FPT Corporation confirmed that Vice Chairman of FPT University Council Hoang Nam Tien suddenly passed away at 4:10 p.m. on July 31 due to a stroke. He was 56 years old.

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, born in 1969 in Hanoi , is the former Chairman of FPT Software, FPT Telecom, FPT Corporation. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors - FPT University, in charge of postgraduate training activities. Joining FPT in 1993, Mr. Tien has worked here continuously for 30 years and is considered an important factor contributing to the success of the Group. He is known as an administrator, a technology expert, a consultant in startup activities, a teacher and a popular speaker.

When he first joined the company, he was famous for standing up in meetings and saying that the bosses were stupid because they were wrong about distribution strategies and tactics (at that time, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien was just the one who attended the meeting instead of the busy department head). Thanks to that, he was assigned by Mr. Truong Gia Binh (at that time, FPT General Director) to do distribution to prove that his statement that "bosses are stupid" was correct.

In 2008, FPT Distribution Company, with Mr. Hoang Nam Tien as General Director, achieved revenue of 700 million USD (accounting for 68% of the entire corporation), bringing FPT to exceed the revenue threshold of 1 billion USD for the first time in its history. In 2011, he was assigned to be Chairman of FPT Software Company (FPT Software) and was considered the most promising candidate for the position of the next CEO of the corporation.

When he was Chairman of FPT Software, the company set a goal that FPT would have software revenue of 1 billion USD, many people thought this was a pipe dream; but on December 22, 2023, FPT announced that it had reached the milestone of 1 billion USD in IT service revenue from foreign markets. This result made FPT the first technology company in Vietnam to achieve a billion USD in revenue from software exports, marking Vietnamese intelligence globally and actively contributing to the overall development of the economy .

After leaving FPT Software, in March 2020, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien was elected Chairman of FPT Telecom. Since then, he has led FPT Telecom to overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the period 2020 - 2022, the network's revenue increased from 11,466 billion to more than 14,700 billion VND. Profit after tax also increased from more than 1,600 billion to over 2,250 billion VND.

In addition to core telecommunications services, FPT Telecom also launched many new products and services such as FPT Camera, Foxpay e-wallet. With the OTT television brand FPT Play, the company also promoted the ownership of broadcasting copyrights for a series of special entertainment content and sports tournaments such as UEFA Champions League, V.League 1, V.League 2 and National Cup for 5 consecutive seasons.

Leaving FPT Telecom, Mr. Tien took on a new role as Vice Chairman of the FPT University Council. He is expected to help FPT Education take many new steps in the future as a leader with many bold ideas, as well as making contributions to career guidance and support for the younger generation.

After 3 years as Chairman of FPT Telecom, in 2023, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien moved to become Vice Chairman of the Board of FPT University. Since then, he has appeared as a speaker at many seminars, or talks with young people and is an inspirational figure for young people in start-up activities.
