Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan visits and presents gifts to pediatric patients at the Central Lung Hospital

(PLVN) - On the morning of May 29, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, President of the Vietnam Children's Fund, visited the Central Lung Hospital and presented gifts to pediatric patients on the occasion of International Children's Day, June 1.

At the Department of Pediatrics, Central Lung Hospital, VicePresident Vo Thi Anh Xuan kindly visited each child patient, learning about their health, treatment process and family circumstances.

Sharing the worries and hardships of families, the Vice President emphasized the Party and State's attention to healthcare work, especially improving the quality of tuberculosis and lung disease examination and treatment for children.

On the occasion of Children's Day, the Vice President sent wishes to the children being treated at the Central Lung Hospital for good health, active treatment, and hoped that they would recover quickly and return to their families soon. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan presented meaningful gifts to the children being treated at the Pediatrics Department, Central Lung Hospital.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan presented gifts to 6 patients who successfully underwent lung transplants at the hospital.

During the meeting, the Vice President met with the hospital’s doctors and 6 patients who had successfully undergone lung transplants. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan praised the tireless efforts of the team of doctors and medical staff at the Central Lung Hospital in caring for and treating patients, including children, contributing to bringing life and hope to many families.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated the achievements of the Central Lung Hospital.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated the hospital on its important achievements and affirmed that it is a source of pride and a solid foundation for the hospital to continue to achieve higher goals in the cause of caring for and protecting people's health. In particular, the Central Lung Hospital's successful performance of two consecutive lung transplants within just one week in April 2025 is an important milestone, demonstrating the great progress of the hospital as well as the Vietnamese health sector in the field of organ transplantation. This is not only a medical achievement, but also opens up hope for life for many seriously ill people across the country.

The Vice President emphasized that child health care is an investment in the country's future. Currently, diseases are increasingly unpredictable and constantly changing, posing challenges to the medical sector, requiring no subjectivity. She hopes that the medical team and the entire health sector will be deeply aware of their sacred mission in order to develop specific and effective action strategies.

100% lung transplant success rate - opening up the chance of revival for many patients

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Dinh Van Luong - Director of the Central Lung Hospital, Head of the Executive Board of the National Tuberculosis Control Program said that in 2024, the hospital examined 102,969 patients, treated 40,896 inpatients, and successfully performed 4,932 surgeries. In the Pediatrics Department alone, the final unit in diagnosing and treating pediatric tuberculosis, about 250-300 pediatric tuberculosis cases were detected and treated, mainly pediatric patients with severe tuberculosis, complicated tuberculosis such as meningitis, miliary tuberculosis, spinal tuberculosis, and drug-resistant tuberculosis, so the cost of treatment increased and the time was prolonged. In 2024, the number of pediatric patients coming for examination and treatment inpatients and outpatients was 14,405.

“The hospital has performed 7 lung transplants with a success rate of 100%, opening up the opportunity for revival for many patients,” the Director of the Central Lung Hospital shared.

With the goal of turning the Central Lung Hospital into a high-quality hospital, on par with international standards, performing well the task of eliminating tuberculosis, caring for and improving lung health for Vietnamese people and international visitors, the Director of the Central Lung Hospital hopes to continue to receive the attention and direction of the Party and State in tuberculosis prevention, especially prioritizing social protection activities for pediatric patients, especially those with tuberculosis. At the same time, the hospital hopes to have closer coordination with the national pediatric system in controlling pediatric tuberculosis.
