The average score of more than 1 million candidates taking the Literature exam this year was 7.0 points, 0.23 points lower than last year.
Notably, this year, no candidate nationwide scored 10 points in Literature. On the other hand, there were 7 exams with a score of 0 and 87 exams with a score below 1 point.

In 2024, more than 1 million candidates took the Literature exam, with the average score being 7.23 points, 0.37 points higher than in 2023. Last year, nationwide, 2 candidates scored 10 points in the Literature exam. The score with the most students was 8.0 points. In addition, more than 53,000 students scored below average, 68 students failed, and 29 students scored 0.
2025 is the first year of exams according to the 2018 General Education Program. For the Literature subject, it is a special turning point when the exam uses materials completely outside of textbooks to assess the reading comprehension, thinking and creativity of candidates.
The exam took place from June 26-27 with nearly 1.17 million candidates taking the exam. The official exam for Literature was commented by teachers and students to closely follow the structure of the reference exam previously announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. The content of the Reading and Writing questions in the exam are all within the scope of knowledge and skills according to the "Requirements to achieve" of Literature - GeneralEducation Program 2018.

The test consists of 2 parts: Reading Comprehension (4 points) and Writing (6 points).
Part I Reading Comprehension includes 5 questions classified according to cognitive levels.
Questions 1 and 2 are both at the recognition level, in which question 1 requires recognition of the narrator in the text, a knowledge of the narrative genre that is very familiar to students; question 2 requires recognition of the two rivers of Le and Son's hometown, a detail that is present in the content of the text. These are two questions that help candidates with average academic ability to achieve good scores.
Classification ability mainly appears in questions 3, 4, 5 at the comprehension and application levels when requiring candidates to have depth of thinking and experience.
Question number 5 is at the application level, requiring students to apply their literary knowledge, knowledge of life, society... to not only choose the direction of the answer, the way of thinking and logical and accurate arguments, but also demonstrate independent thinking and self-control when analyzing the similarity in meaning in 2 details of 2 texts, seeing the sacred attachment of each person to the lands and skies of the homeland.
Reading comprehension questions are assessed to be suitable for students when testing knowledge and skills in the "Requirements to achieve" of Literature 2018 in the 2018 General Education Program, ensuring the correct levels of cognition, having practical significance for their future lifestyle.
Part II: Question 1 (2.0 points) is a literary argument question that gives specific requirements for candidates to write a paragraph of about 200 words about an aspect of the problem drawn from the excerpt of the reading comprehension section, which is the requirement "Write a paragraph (about 200 words) analyzing Le's feelings for Son in the text in the Reading comprehension section".
Question 2 (4.0 points): The question of writing a social argumentative essay requires candidates to apply the results of reading comprehension and knowledge of the country's context to write an argumentative essay on the topic: Any homeland's sky is the Fatherland's sky.
