Increased risk of dengue fever cases
According to the World Health Organization, since the beginning of the year, dengue fever has continued to circulate at a high level in Southeast Asia and has tended to increase in recent weeks. Specifically, Malaysia recorded more than 21,000 cases; Singapore more than 20,000 cases; the Philippines more than 110,000 cases... There have been 437 deaths due to dengue fever.

In Vietnam, more than 24,630 cases of dengue fever have been recorded, the number of cases is showing signs of increasing locally in some localities, especially in the southern region (accounting for more than 70% of the total number of cases nationwide); many provinces and cities have cases that are 2 to 3 times higher than the same period last year. At the conference, experts commented that, cyclically, the number of dengue fever cases will increase sharply from June to December every year. Along with that, in recent years, the dengue fever outbreak cycle has tended to shorten from 5 years to 3 or 4 years. Currently, the dengue fever epidemic in the country is still under control. However, with the current erratic rainy and sunny weather conditions favorable for the development of disease-carrying mosquitoes, there is a very high risk of dengue fever outbreaks in the near future.
With the complicated developments of dengue fever, Dr. Hoang Minh Duc - Director of the Department of Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health requested localities to step up communication to raise public awareness of risks and disease prevention measures; closely monitor the epidemic situation and mosquito indicators to have timely and effective prevention and control measures; strengthen professional training for disease prevention and treatment staff; proactively deploy training courses and exchange experiences in disease prevention and control. In particular, Director of the Department of Disease Prevention Hoang Minh Duc emphasized that the most practical disease prevention solution is to effectively organize campaigns to kill mosquito larvae, combined with campaigns to spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes; and promptly handle outbreaks.
Continue to synchronously deploy solutions
According to the report of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, since the beginning of the year, the province has recorded more than 3,440 cases of dengue fever, 3 times higher than the same period last year. The whole province has recorded 175 outbreaks, of which 127 outbreaks have been thoroughly handled. With the complicated developments of dengue fever, the provincial health sector has synchronously and drastically deployed many solutions to prevent and control the disease. Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Health on strengthening dengue fever prevention and control, the Provincial Center for Disease Control has organized delegations to monitor dengue fever treatment in localities; periodically every month, update and issue a list of villages and residential groups at high risk that need to organize mosquito larvae eradication at a frequency of once a week, once every 2 weeks. Medical facilities have launched a communication campaign in response to the 15th ASEAN Dengue Prevention and Control Day, combining mosquito larvae eradication campaigns and proactive chemical spraying; Regularly monitor the epidemic, update and track cases, identify outbreaks and handle them promptly with a rate of 100%. The Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control of communes and wards, depending on the local epidemic situation, has mobilized forces to organize the eradication of mosquito larvae at high-risk locations...
Dr. Ton That Toan - Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control said: "Although the provincial health sector and localities have proactively implemented synchronous solutions since the beginning of the year, the number of cases has decreased and slowed down, however, since May, the number of dengue fever cases in the province has shown signs of increasing. Besides the weather, the cause is that many people are still subjective and negligent in preventing dengue fever, especially not voluntarily implementing measures to kill mosquito larvae at home. Through the center's monitoring of households with dengue fever patients, when checking some water containers, there are still mosquito larvae. The situation of people arbitrarily buying medicine from private pharmacies to self-treat dengue fever at home is still common, which makes it difficult to manage patients in the community and thoroughly handle outbreaks. Mosquito larvae eradication campaigns in some localities have not been effective, mainly in terms of propaganda and mobilization, not working with people to find and kill mosquito larvae...".
According to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Health, in the coming time, the provincial health sector will continue to drastically implement solutions to prevent and control dengue fever. However, for this work to be effective, the Ministry of Health needs to soon complete the infectious disease reporting software system so that localities can quickly update cases and outbreaks, thereby having timely handling directions. Localities need to communicate in the direction of changing people's habits in maintaining environmental hygiene, proactively implementing mosquito and larvae eradication in households; have sanctions to handle households that do not implement recommendations to destroy larvae as required by the health sector. Local health stations and health centers should strengthen monitoring and early detection of cases in the community. Steering committees for disease prevention and control in localities need to organize training courses on how to destroy larvae for people...
Each family only needs to spend 10 minutes a day to kill mosquito larvae to help prevent the development of mosquitoes and cut off the source of disease transmission. This is the solution that the provincial health sector wants people to join hands in implementing.
