On February 28, in Hanoi, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the network of spouses of Ambassadors jointly organized a small workshop to explore the diverse cuisine of rural communities and ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

The event took place at the French Hospital in Hanoi, offering the Ambassadors' spouses a unique opportunity to experience the culinary traditions of these diverse ethnic communities.

Here, the delegates learned about the nutritional value and cultural significance of each dish, thereby promoting understanding and increasing love for the communities - the "homeland" of these dishes.

A notable point of the conference was the launch of the book Nutritional dishes and stories from Vietnamese ethnic families introducing the culinary heritage of ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

This book published by IFAD is a valuable resource for preserving traditions, promoting cultural understanding and raising awareness of the importance of sustainable food systems.

Mr. Willem Aumann, spouse of IFAD Country Director in Vietnam, said: "Ambassadors' spouses play an important role in promoting cultural exchange.

We are honored to collaborate with the Ambassadors' spouses and launch this special book, which makes a valuable contribution to the understanding of the diversity of Vietnamese cuisine."

In addition to cultural exchange, the workshop also addressed important topics on sustainable rural development and improved nutrition.

Members of the Ambassador's spouses actively participated in discussions, exploring how to integrate traditional methods into modern food systems to create a healthier and more sustainable future.

Dr. Ho Thu Mai, a nutrition expert at the French Hospital in Hanoi, said: "This event has provided a valuable platform to explore the history of Vietnamese nutrition and explore the culinary wisdom of ethnic minorities.

By rediscovering these beautiful traditions, we can contribute to promoting healthy eating habits for everyone."

Ms. Ilaria Firmian, IFAD expert on ethnic minorities, also emphasized the significance of food systems of ethnic minorities in conserving biodiversity and combating malnutrition.

“By integrating traditional methods into the modern world, we can create a sustainable and nutritious future for everyone,” she said.
