Accompanying the Women's Union officials of Go Quao commune on a visit to the lush green vegetable gardens, golden rice fields heavy with grain, and models of snakehead fish and buffalo breeding, we were delighted with the achievements of the women here. Ms. Thi Be Nam, residing in Phuoc Hung 1 hamlet, happily said: “Seeing the women in the hamlet competing to develop the economy , I also learned from them. With the guidance and support of the Women's Union of the commune, I actively applied science and technology to rice cultivation, achieving higher yields than before, and my life is getting better and better, allowing me to provide for my children's education.”
The Women's Union of Go Quao commune has 4,691 members participating in activities across 24 branches. According to Nguyen Ngoc The, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and Chairman of the Women's Union of Go Quao commune, in recent times, women members in the area have been enthusiastically working and producing, actively participating in economic development. To understand the living conditions and needs of its members, the Women's Union of the commune surveys, assesses, and categorizes poor member households, investigating the causes in order to provide timely support solutions.
Annually, the association coordinates activities to help poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged women's households overcome poverty; this includes supporting livelihood models, providing vocational training, training in science and technology transfer, and job placement for members and women. At the same time, it promotes and encourages women to actively participate in the movement of women excelling in economic activities, women helping each other develop economically, effectively implementing policies on household economic development, and registering with the higher-level association to implement economic development models.
The association has established 7 cooperative groups for growing green vegetables and raising freshwater fish, with 111 members participating. Effective economic models implemented by members include: rice cultivation, vegetable farming, raising snakehead fish, eels, ducks, breeding buffaloes, and pigs for meat... Members in the hamlets regularly share experiences on crops and livestock, support each other in overcoming difficulties, and work together to help disadvantaged women improve their lives, responding to the emulation movement "Women actively studying, working creatively, and building happy families".
Taking advantage of mandates from the Social Policy Bank and various programs and projects, the Women's Union of the commune supported 1,430 households in borrowing capital, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 37 billion VND. The Union established 23 revolving fund groups at the branch and group levels, with 329 women participating. From these groups, over 1 billion VND was provided to 115 women as interest-free revolving loans to develop family businesses and purchase health insurance.
The Women's Union also promotes and guides women in applying science and technology to production and livestock farming, encouraging them to boldly transform the structure of crops and livestock, and invest in intensive cultivation of high-economic-value crops and livestock. To practically support the enhancement of women's economic empowerment, the Women's Union of the commune established women's business groups, helping 68 women start their own businesses.
The specific, practical activities and proactive approach of the Women's Union of Go Quao commune have not only changed the way of thinking and doing things but also fostered the creativity of its members in production and business, helping many members escape poverty and improve their lives. Many women have become exemplary women excelling in economic activities at various levels, such as: Ms. Ho Thi Dep, residing in Phuoc Hung 2 hamlet, with her rice production and pig farming model; Ms. Thi Be Nam, residing in Phuoc Hung 1 hamlet, producing rice; Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuy, residing in Phuoc Dat hamlet, running a grocery store... During the period 2021-2025, the union helped 77 households with women escape poverty and near-poverty.
Ms. Than Thi Nguyet, a resident of Phuoc Tho hamlet and classified as a near-poor household, said: “I am very grateful to the Women's Union of the commune for always caring for and helping me in all aspects. Not only did I receive a loan of nearly 20 million VND to increase the number of pigs, but I also received guidance on business methods and new techniques in raising pigs for meat. Thanks to this, my family's income has gradually improved. Currently, my pig herd is developing well, and I expect to sell them in time for the Lunar New Year in 2026.”
The changes in the fields and gardens today are the foundation for women in Go Quao commune to continue writing the story of poverty reduction, building prosperous families, and making their homeland increasingly vibrant.
