Báo Phú YênBáo Phú Yên13/06/2023

Located in the west of the province, bordering the Central Highlands, Song Hinh district is a land where many ethnic groups from many regions live together. This convergence has created a very diverse, rich and colorful culture.

Home of epic

The ethnic communities living in Song Hinh district have been preserving a unique cultural treasure. In terms of architecture, there are cultural features of communal houses, long houses, and tombs... In terms of music, there are gongs, drums, trumpets, Tinh lutes, Goong lutes, and trumpets... Folk songs and dances include gongs, xoan dances, arap dances, khan singing, then singing... In terms of customs and beliefs, there are weddings, funerals, ceremonies, and worship. In terms of costumes, there are patterns and brocades that fully embody the characteristics of indigenous peoples and peoples from many places who live here.

According to the investigation of the Department of Culture - Information (now the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), in Song Hinh district, there are nearly 100 epics, most of which are epics of the Ede people, and over 30 epic singers. Since ancient times, in the spiritual life of ethnic minorities in the district, epics have held a very important position and have a strong attraction. Each epic is a historical story closely associated with the community, passed down orally from generation to generation. Every time an artist sings an epic, villagers from old to young flock to listen silently, night after night. The appeal of epics is not only in the rhythm and melody, but also through the expressive expression of the artist, through the content of the story in each chapter and each section.

Through epics, villages can recognize the process of construction, formation, history of fighting against natural disasters, violence, injustice; pass on customs, habits, lifestyles of the community and relationships between ethnic groups in the residential area. Not only are there many in quantity and rich in themes, but the quality of many epics of Song Hinh is very valuable in terms of culture and history, highly appreciated by scientists such as Dam San, Xinh Nha, Khinh Du, Am H'Wư... For that reason, scientists do not hesitate to make the statement: "Song Hinh is the homeland of epics".

However, due to many reasons such as the difficult socio -economic situation; the negative impact of the market economy; the rapid spread and development of information technology and cultural flows on the internet, cyberspace... have influenced and significantly affected the awareness, tastes and behaviors of the majority of people, causing many unique cultural features to be lost. That requires competent authorities to promote and effectively implement tasks and solutions to preserve and promote those unique cultural features.

Promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed and pointed out that, “Culture must light the way for the nation to go”. President Ho Chi Minh’s great thoughts on building culture and people will always be the guiding principle for our Party, State and People in the cause of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Our Party always pays special attention to building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity. The Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party has determined: “Developing comprehensive human beings and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity so that culture truly becomes an endogenous strength, a driving force for national development and national defense. Increasing investment in developing cultural careers. Building, developing, creating the most favorable social environment and conditions to arouse the tradition of patriotism, national pride, belief, and aspiration for developing a prosperous and happy country; the talent, intelligence, and qualities of the Vietnamese people are the center, the most important goal and driving force for national development”.

Recognizing the position, role and importance of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups. Since 2008, the district has developed a project to preserve and promote the cultural heritage values of ethnic groups in Song Hinh district and continue to implement it in the periods of 2011-2015, 2015-2020 and 2020-2025. Through the implementation of the project, many very encouraging results have been achieved, such as: Collecting a number of traditional musical instruments and costumes of the Ede people; organizing 5 classes to teach the art of using traditional musical instruments (gong); organizing a contest to make traditional musical instruments and carve statues; collecting 3 epic poems, recording 9 fairy tales of the Ede people; restoring a number of traditional festivals, brocade weaving, and making wine with traditional yeast; organizing cultural festivals of gongs, folk songs, and traditional musical instruments; establish traditional ethnic music clubs in communes and towns...

In the coming time, Song Hinh district will continue to strengthen the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels; focus on promoting propaganda and education activities, contributing to raising awareness of the position, role and significance of preserving and promoting cultural identity, the sense of respect and responsibility of the entire political system for the work of preserving and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities; pay attention to investing properly in the work of preserving and promoting cultural values. At the same time, invest in facilities, equipment and build programs and activities for villages in the direction of prioritizing the restoration of 4 traditional cultural values including festivals, patterns, gongs, musical instruments; soon invest in building the district's traditional communal house as a place to display and preserve cultural artifacts; Build and effectively implement the Le Diem Cultural and Tourism Village project, associated with prioritizing the restoration of traditional village spaces, forest spaces, and wharf spaces, creating a healthy and developing cultural space, especially the heritage "Gong Cultural Space"...

At the same time, the locality prioritizes training and fostering a team of cadres working in culture, sports and tourism; training and fostering human resources from within the ethnic minority community, ensuring an increase in quantity and quality. Promoting the role of village elders and artisans in preserving and promoting cultural values, associated with the promulgation and effective implementation of resolutions to propagate and mobilize the elimination of bad customs and practices that are no longer suitable for ethnic minorities in the district. Actively mobilizing socialization, increasing resources for the preservation and promotion of folk cultural forms; supporting folk art troupes; strengthening information work on promotion programs, invitations, cooperation, cultural exchanges, etc.

The Resolution of the 9th Congress of the Party Committee of Song Hinh District, term 2020-2025, determined: “Preserving and promoting the cultural identity values of ethnic minorities in Song Hinh District to contribute to building a comprehensively developed culture and people of Song Hinh, towards truth - goodness - beauty. Strive by 2025 to basically complete the collection and construction of dossiers for artifacts of historical and cultural value; intangible culture and the restoration of a number of typical festivals of ethnic minorities”.
