Entering the second half, when the ball had only been rolling for 4 minutes, the home team Qatar was unexpectedly awarded a penalty after Almoez Ali was fouled in the penalty area. On the 11m mark, Akram Afif easily fooled goalkeeper Rami Hamadeh to help the home team take a 2-1 lead.
