The US Army’s 101st Airborne Division has unveiled a model of its future MV-75 long-range attack aircraft. This is considered a historic event, demonstrating the US Army’s vision for next-generation vertical take-off platforms, capable of dominating air attacks for decades to come.

The MV-75 was developed as part of the Next Generation Vertical Take-Off Platforms program. The program was initiated to develop an advanced aircraft platform, superior in range, speed, payload and survivability, to replace the aging UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter fleet.

Accordingly, the MV-75 is designed with an advanced rotary wing structure, open digital systems and a modular frame. This platform can fly twice as far and nearly twice as fast as helicopters currently in service with the US Army.

This allows the MV-75 to perform missions such as transporting troops, evacuating wounded or conducting precision strikes in areas that are inaccessible to traditional propeller-driven aircraft. The MV-75’s configuration also allows for the integration of emerging technologies such as autonomous flight systems, next-generation sensors and electronic warfare capabilities, helping it maintain its superiority against increasingly complex threats for decades to come.

Technically, the MV-75 was developed based on the Bell V-280 Valor aircraft platform, combining the vertical take-off and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft. The MV-75 reaches a cruising speed of about 518km/h, with a combat radius of about 1,852km. The rotating wing structure allows the aircraft to quickly switch between hovering and cruising modes, helping to flexibly carry out missions. The aircraft uses advanced composite materials and a crash-resistant fuselage design, increasing survivability.

With higher speed, longer range and modern digital systems, the MV-75 promises to significantly enhance the core capabilities of US airborne forces.

* British Navy builds model of "hybrid aircraft carrier"

The British Ministry of Defense announced that the Royal Navy is preparing to launch a "hybrid aircraft carrier" model, combining F-35B stealth fighters with autonomous platforms and long-range precision missiles.

Accordingly, autonomous platforms could be a combination of logistics drones , surveillance UAVs, and UAVs designed for jamming or direct attack missions. With artificial intelligence, these UAVs will operate semi-independently, adapting in real time to changes on the battlefield.

Some have argued that the plan is too ambitious. Although the F-35B has already been deployed on HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, integrating UAVs and missile launchers from the deck would require significant testing and budget adjustments. According to the Royal Navy’s published plan, initial testing could begin as early as 2027, with the combined platform expected to be operational by 2030.

Tactically, the combination of manned and unmanned systems in a carrier strike group offers significant advantages in maritime combat missions. Manned platforms such as the F-35B are essential in complex missions that require situational judgment and coordinated attacks on high-value targets, while UAVs have the advantage of operating in dangerous areas. Combining the two platforms increases combat effectiveness and reduces risk to pilots.

The addition of long-range precision missiles capable of being fired directly from the deck of an aircraft carrier fills a critical tactical gap. While aircraft remain the primary means of attack, they are limited by their operational endurance, sortie frequency, and weapons payload. Deck-launched missiles would allow the aircraft carrier to actively engage high-value targets on land or at sea.

* Japan launches new Type-12 coastal anti-ship missile system

At a recent live-fire exercise, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) publicly demonstrated its new Type-12 long-range coastal anti-ship missile system for the first time.

Coastal missile systems are land-based weapons platforms designed to detect, track, and destroy maritime threats. These systems are typically deployed along coastlines and on islands, allowing land forces to attack targets from a distance without the support of warships or aircraft.

The highlight of the system is the upgraded Type 12 coastal defense missile 12SSM. This is a new generation coastal defense missile, with a range of up to 1,000km. This missile is also designed with a small radar cross section, helping to "avoid" enemy radar, making it difficult to detect and intercept.

The launcher is mounted on a highly mobile 8x8 chassis, adapted to operate as a vehicle-launched launcher (TEL), equipped with hydraulic stabilizers for increased launch accuracy, an armored cockpit to protect the crew, and integrated systems for target acquisition and fire control.

The launch of a new long-range coastal missile system is a major milestone in Japan's efforts to strengthen its coastal defense capabilities.
