On the evening of June 6, midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai just joined the training camp, so he was absent from the first training session of the national team.
Quang Hai returned to Vietnam yesterday. However, due to fatigue after the long flight and wanting to visit his family, he asked for permission to join the team late and was approved by coach Philippe Troussier.
Two other players playing abroad, Nguyen Cong Phuong and Nguyen Van Toan, have not yet joined the team. Cong Phuong returned to Vietnam from Japan on June 10, while Van Toan returned from Korea two days later.

Quang Hai is going through the most difficult period of his career, when he is not being used, leading to the decision to terminate his contract with Pau FC a year early. Coach Troussier himself also admitted that, in terms of performance, the 26-year-old midfielder does not deserve to be called up to the national team, like Cong Phuong and some players playing in the V-League. However, the French coach respects the level and experience of these players, and wants to give them a chance to encourage their spirit.
According to VnExpress sources, Quang Hai has reached a preliminary agreement with a team playing in the 2023 V-League and will likely sign a contract when he returns to Vietnam to join the national team this time.
Today, the team only has 25 players. Some members are busy playing the remaining matches of round 11 of V-League 2023. Coach Troussier therefore mixed the national team and U23 together to train the troops. Before starting training, he crossed out Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, because the doctors determined that he was injured and needed about two weeks of rest. Coach Troussier sent Hong Duy back to Nam Dinh Club for treatment, without calling in any additional players.
According to the plan, in the first training phase taking place from June 6 to June 13, Coach Troussier will combine the national team and U23 team in the same training plan. He will then separate and select about 26 players for the first international friendly match against Hong Kong, taking place on June 15 at Lach Tray Stadium.
The group of players who were not selected will continue to train and will have two quality assessments, respectively meeting the Hanoi Police Club on June 14 at the PVF Center and meeting the Hai Phong Club on June 17 at Lach Tray. Based on the performances of the players in these two matches, combined with the evaluation of the performance of the group of players who played against Hong Kong, Coach Troussier will make a decision on the Vietnam team's lineup for the second international friendly match, against Syria on June 20 at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh.
