Joining ASEAN since 1995 and participating in the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) is considered an important milestone, bringing many opportunities for Vietnam in general and Quang Nam in particular in expanding diplomatic relations, economic cooperation, trade and investment.
In the spirit of proactive and active integration, the province has implemented synchronously, effectively and comprehensively in economic and foreign cooperation, cultural exchange, maintaining friendly relations with many localities in ASEAN countries and some countries in the world, contributing significantly to the socio -economic development of the province.

Promote investment attraction, industrial and tourism development
Quang Nam province has an important strategic role and position in the Central Key Economic Zone, as one of the few localities in the country that possesses a complete transport infrastructure system such as airports, seaports, railways, national highways, and expressways; has two world cultural heritages: Hoi An ancient town, My Son sanctuary and Cu Lao Cham world biosphere reserve.
The province currently has two economic zones including Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone; 13 Industrial Parks with a total area of about 3,500 hectares and 92 planned Industrial Clusters with a total area of 2,613.14 hectares.
Up to now, Quang Nam has attracted more than 1,100 domestic investment projects with a total registered capital of more than VND 220,000 billion; 194 FDI projects are operating with a total registered capital of more than 6.06 billion USD. According to the Foreign Investment Agency, as of July 2023, Quang Nam's FDI attraction ranked 18th out of 63 provinces and cities, focusing on the fields of processing and manufacturing industry, tourism, services... With the ASEAN bloc, the province has attracted 12 FDI projects with a total registered capital of over 4.1 billion USD from Singapore, Thailand, Philippines... in addition to 139 projects with a total capital of more than 1.5 billion USD from Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan (China)...
The above results have contributed to promoting the province's economic growth rate. In the period 1997-2022, the average GRDP growth rate is about 9.4%/year. In 2022 alone, GRDP will reach 10.3%, ranking 11th out of 63 provinces and cities; GRDP per capita will reach 76.6 million VND, 34 times higher than in 1997; Total state budget revenue in 2022 will reach more than 32,000 billion VND, 140 times higher than in 1997. In addition, for many consecutive years, Quang Nam's Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) has been in the top 20 nationwide, in which in the period 2015-2019, this index was always in the top 10. The above results are the resonance of the flexible and dynamic management of the provincial government, the support of the people and the business community, helping Quang Nam attract more and more foreign investors.
Quang Nam has identified service and tourism development as a key economic sector, prioritizing typical tourism products of the province such as cultural experience tourism, resort tourism, sea tourism, targeting high-end international tourist segments... to enhance the value and enhance the tourism brand. In addition, the province focuses on developing logistics services, forming logistics centers to ensure the needs of production, domestic circulation of goods and import and export.
Regarding industry, the province will develop Economic Zones and Industrial Zones and Clusters, focusing on mechanical and automobile industries and supporting automobile production and assembly, with large enterprises as the center to link with enterprises participating in the value chain.
Regarding agriculture, Quang Nam is oriented towards high-tech development, organic agriculture associated with deep processing industry of agricultural products and medicinal herbs to meet large orders, especially for agricultural products according to OCOP standards in Quang Nam, which is leading the Central provinces.
Regarding the development of synchronous and strategic infrastructure, Quang Nam province has sought the support of the Central Government, determined to build Chu Lai International Airport with a scale of 4F and upgrade Chu Lai Port for 50,000-ton ships, creating momentum for the province and the entire Central Key Economic Region to develop.

Strengthen cultural exchange, maintain friendly relations
In recent times, Quang Nam has established friendly cooperative relations with 15 localities and partners around the world. With ASEAN, the province has established bilateral relations with Sekong province, Champasak province (Laos), Ubon Ratchathani province (Thailand), Battambang province, Siem Reap province (Cambodia).
Especially with Sekong province (Laos), Quang Nam maintains and develops special traditional relations in the fields of investment, socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security, foreign affairs, seriously implementing the Protocol on Vietnam - Laos border lines and border markers, the Agreement on the Regulations on border management and land border gates between Vietnam and Laos; coordinating to organize the opening ceremony of the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc international border gate pair... Leaders of the two sides always maintain sending letters, telegrams of greetings and congratulations on major events of the two provinces.
With Ubon Ratchathani province (Thailand), the two localities maintain friendly cooperative relations through delegation exchanges for visits, diplomatic greetings, investment promotion, and participation in important cultural and economic events. In 2022, Quang Nam coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to organize the Quang Nam - Thailand Business Connection Forum 2022 to create investment connection opportunities in a number of areas such as connecting the distribution of typical agricultural products of Quang Nam to the Thai market; coordinating the transfer of technology to preserve and propagate precious medicinal herbs; tourism services; handicrafts, fine arts, etc.
In the coming time, Quang Nam hopes to continue attracting FDI from ASEAN and non-ASEAN countries in projects using high, modern, environmentally friendly technology, digital transformation projects, biotechnology, new materials; resorts, health care; pharmaceutical processing, Silica, and socialized projects on airport and seaport infrastructure development. The province commits that investors will be given the best conditions and incentives based on the effective implementation of signed cooperation contents.
