While the Eastern region is developing strongly, the Western region of Quang Nam still faces many difficulties. What to do to improve infrastructure and promote synchronous development between the Eastern and Western regions is the problem for Quang Nam province.

Quang Nam province's planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, determines that the spatial organization plan for socio-economic activities is to invest and develop according to the spatial structure model of "two regions, two dynamic clusters, three development corridors", promoting the potential and advantages of geo-economics - culture - politics to promote the socio-economic development of the province.

In particular, Quang Nam has been accelerating the completion of a modern and synchronous economic and social infrastructure system, especially focusing on developing strategic transport infrastructure such as East-West inter-regional transport, seaports, airports, etc.

One of the highlights of the connecting traffic infrastructure in Quang Nam is the putting into use of the coastal road, connecting from Da Nang to Chu Lai International Airport, creating a development axis for the Eastern region of Quang Nam in particular and an important link in the entire national coastal road route in general.

Since the Quang Nam coastal route was put into use, it has created a strong "push" in the economic development of the Eastern region. The proof is that dozens of tourism and service projects have been licensed for construction, billions of USD have been invested in this area, bringing strong development to Quang Nam. The Eastern region is the region that contributes mainly to the growth of the province.

Quang Nam prioritizes expanding and developing traffic axes towards transporting large volumes of goods on the East-West Corridor, connecting with the North-South axes to form a key traffic network connecting the region from the plains to the mountains.

Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, said that the coastal route has an important position, becoming a driving force for economic development in the eastern part of the locality.

However, the Western region of Quang Nam, with its mountainous districts, which have a lot of room for development in agriculture, medicinal herbs and eco-tourism, is facing many difficulties. The biggest bottleneck for this region is the weak transport infrastructure with many bottlenecks. Therefore, synchronously connecting the infrastructure of the Eastern and Western regions is a key task that the locality is focusing on implementing.

Quang Nam is receiving investment from the Ministry of Transport in the National Highway 14E Project. The province is determined to clear the land and hand over the project soon so that it can be completed on schedule.

Besides, the province is speeding up the progress of key transport projects such as the Coastal Road Project Phase II, the Central Region Linkage Project of Quang Nam province...

It is known that the Central Region Connectivity Project of Quang Nam province has a total investment of more than 768 billion VND, invested by the Quang Nam Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. When completed and put into use, the project will strengthen connectivity, promote trade of goods in the plains and mountainous areas, transport agricultural and forestry products to serve factories in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, shorten the time to transport goods from the Central Highlands provinces to the Central coastal provinces and vice versa.

A representative of the Quang Nam Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board - the investor - said that the unit is asking contractors to speed up the progress of the coastal road project and the Central Region Connection Project of Quang Nam Province. Currently, the biggest difficulty is site clearance and construction materials. The province has issued many instructions to remove obstacles to promote the project's progress.

According to the Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects of Quang Nam province, the province's infrastructure, especially traffic, has been very prosperous in recent years, with a relatively complete range of types, in which the East-West and North-South traffic axes are relatively complete, compared to the planning, they have been basically completed.

In the coming time, the province will prioritize expanding and developing more traffic axes in the direction of transporting large volumes of goods on the East-West Corridor, connecting with the North-South axes to form a key traffic network connecting the region from the plains to the mountains, connecting smoothly between Chu Lai Open Economic Zone with Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone and the Central Highlands region.

Completing strategic infrastructure

Currently, some important roads in the province are degraded, affecting the circulation of goods. In particular, National Highway 14D is currently seriously damaged but has not been repaired, becoming a barrier to the circulation of goods.

According to Mr. Le Van Dung, the province is asking the Central Government to support investment in traffic routes that are currently degraded or not connected, including National Highway 14D with a length of 78 km, with a total estimated investment of about 2,800 billion VND.

“The Government has agreed to the policy of upgrading and expanding National Highway 14D. However, the capital source is not yet available, so Quang Nam has asked the Central Government to support investment in this route,” Mr. Dung said, adding that this is an East-West economic corridor route, connecting Ho Chi Minh Road with Nam Giang International Border Gate (Quang Nam), which plays a very important role in the socio-economic development of Quang Nam province, Da Nang city, as well as the Central Key Economic Zone.

In addition, Quang Nam province is proposing that the Central Government study and invest in National Highway 14G, the section from Tuy Loan (Da Nang) to Prao town of Dong Giang district and National Highway 14B from Tuy Loan to Thanh My town of Nam Giang district.

When these national highways are invested, a corridor will be created along National Highway 14B and National Highway 14E connecting to National Highway 14D to Nam Giang International Border Gate. The province has identified this as an exchange axis with the Central Highlands and Southern Laos - Northern Cambodia economic zones.

In addition to developing road infrastructure, Quang Nam is focusing on attracting investors to Chu Lai International Airport. This is an airport with a very large investment space, over 2,000 hectares.

Mr. Le Van Dung said that the Prime Minister has agreed to the policy of socialization to invest in building Chu Lai International Airport to become a 4F airport and a major international cargo transit airport in the country. This is a completely correct policy of the Government, creating opportunities for Quang Nam to develop. At the same time, the province is also calling for investment in Ky Ha seaport to create favorable conditions for the province's logistics development in the future.

Recently, at the Conference to announce the Planning of Quang Nam province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Provincial People's Committee granted a decision approving the investment policy of the Project to Expand and Upgrade Chu Lai Port, in Tam Hiep Port area for 50,000 DWT ships, with a land use area for port construction of 1.72 hectares, with a total investment capital of nearly 1,590 billion VND. The project is invested by THILOGI Group.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province emphasized that in the provincial planning approved by the Government, the construction of synchronous infrastructure is a decisive factor in the province's development in the coming time.

“Quang Nam has a nearly complete transport infrastructure system, including roads, sea routes, and airways. From the provincial planning approved by the Government, combined with the synchronous transport infrastructure with other economic infrastructures, it can be seen that in the future, this is a condition for Quang Nam to develop well economically. By 2030, Quang Nam will become a fairly developed province in the country. This is completely possible,” Mr. Le Van Dung affirmed.
