Connecting history and spirituality

For a long time, Quang Tri has been known as a "sacred land" with tens of thousands of heroic martyrs and a place where many folk religious values intersect.

On the Vietnamese tourism map, Quang Tri province stands out with its unique system of cultural and historical revolutionary relics, becoming attractive destinations for both domestic and international tourists. These include: Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Hien Luong-Ben Hai riverbanks, the Le Duan Memorial Area, Ta Con Airport, Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, Duong 9 National Martyrs Cemetery, Lieu Hanh Temple, Hoang Phuc Pagoda, and many more. Each relic is not only a historical testament but also a "living museum" of the spirit of peace and national unity.

According to Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Quang Tri has more than 700 historical sites, many of which are "red addresses" with educational value and special spiritual significance. The tourism industry is focusing on restoration, digitizing multilingual guides, and developing cultural and spiritual tourism products linked to traditional education for the younger generation. Historical sites are vivid traces of the revolutionary struggle tradition, carrying humanistic values and messages of peace. However, due to the effects of time and war, some sites have deteriorated and need to be restored and renovated using proper techniques and applying digital technology in storing heritage data.

Mr. Hoan stated that in recent years, the province has implemented many comprehensive solutions to link heritage preservation with tourism development, aiming to form a chain of "historical-spiritual-experiential tourism tours." These tourism routes are flexibly connected, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Historical-spiritual tourism not only signifies gratitude to the past but also serves as a bridge to promote the image of Quang Tri's land and people.

For tourists, Quang Tri is not just a sightseeing destination but also an emotional journey. Pham Duc Minh, a tourist from Hanoi, shared after his visit to the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery: “Standing amidst thousands of white graves in the vast, open space, I clearly felt the sacredness of Quang Tri, a land that has suffered so much. That feeling made the trip even more meaningful.”

Immerse yourself in nature

Besides its historical sites, Quang Tri also possesses abundant natural resources and diverse topography, from seas and islands to forests and caves. With a coastline nearly 200km long, the province has many beautiful beaches, such as Nhat Le, Bao Ninh, Quang Phu, Da Nhay, Cua Tung, Cua Viet, My Thuy, Vinh Thai, and the pristine forest ecosystems of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park… becoming a highlight of ecotourism and experiential tourism.

Mr. Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “Quang Tri province is focusing on developing tourism in a green and sustainable direction, positioning itself as a center for adventure tourism in the Asian region, associated with characteristic products such as cave tourism, community tourism, and island and beach tourism.”

Ecotourism and community-based tourism models, such as Blue Diamond Retreat, Ozo Park, or the "Khe Sanh Coffee Tour - A Day as a Coffee Farmer," are becoming distinctive and attractive products for tourists. These tourist areas focus on using renewable energy and environmentally friendly waste treatment, demonstrating the "Net Zero" tourism orientation that the province's tourism industry is aiming for.

Representatives from Oxalis Co., Ltd., the company that built and developed the Blue Diamond Retreat eco-tourism area, shared that the company aims for harmonious development between the economy and the environment. The entire resort's electrical system is powered by solar energy, and wastewater and waste are treated biologically. Visitors not only relax but also participate in experiential activities, learning about green living and balance. This model has been assessed by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a sustainable approach, in line with the trend of green tourism, contributing to making Quang Tri an "environmentally friendly destination".

Striving to make tourism a key economic sector.

Combining spiritual tourism with ecotourism and community-based tourism is opening up new avenues for development, allowing visitors to experience both the natural environment and immerse themselves in the cultural and spiritual atmosphere of this heroic land.

Based on these potentials, Quang Tri province aims to make tourism a key economic sector by 2030, making a significant contribution to the province's GRDP growth. The goal is not only to increase the number of tourists but also to improve the quality of the experience, diversify products, and develop green and responsible tourism.

In the coming period, the province will implement many specific solutions such as: building a smart tourism digital map, promoting digital transformation in management and promotion; expanding routes and destinations connecting coastal and mountainous areas; strengthening regional linkages to form the "Central Vietnam Heritage Route" tourism chain. "In particular, 'Net Zero' tourism is considered an inevitable trend. The province aims to develop tourism with zero net emissions, encourage businesses to invest in renewable energy, reduce plastic use, and raise community awareness about environmental protection," Mr. Ho Van Hoan emphasized.

On its journey to awaken its historical potential, Quang Tri is undergoing a powerful transformation from a land marked by war scars into a destination of peace, gratitude, and experience. Each historical site, each beach, each festival is gradually integrating into the flow of green and humanistic tourism development, contributing to writing a new chapter in the story of this "land of fire" today.
